Estes Park High School Presentation October 10, 2018
What is EVCA: Estes Valley Crisis Advocates is a non-profit agency committed to providing advocacy services to survivors of crime and trauma including safe housing for domestic violence survivors, counseling, referrals and community education. EVCA responds to individuals and to calls from the Estes Park Police Department, Estes Park Fire Department, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department, Estes Park Medical Center, Rocky Mountain National Park, and other organizations that request our services.
History of EVCA: Estes Valley Crisis Advocates has been supporting the community of Estes Park and the surrounding areas since 1988. In response to growing needs for services related to domestic violence, a group of eight volunteers sought out training so that they could address the problem. In March 1989, they began working as advocates with the help of Alternatives for Battered Women, a Loveland group. A year later, Estes Valley Advocates were ready to stand on their own, and a volunteer director coordinated the program from her home. In 1997, the program became incorporated as Estes Valley Victim Advocates, Inc. In 2007 EVCA acquired a safehouse and has been able to shelter men, women, and children in imminent danger due to domestic violence since. Today, known as Estes Valley Crisis Advocates, an Executive Director works with one full time and 5 part- time staff to provide the agency’s services which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. EVCA serves not only the 5,858 year round residents of Estes Park but also the surrounding unincorporated rural area of over 11,000 residents, including; Pinewood Springs, Glen Haven, Drake, Allenspark and the surrounding Larimer County area. Advocates are also on-call to serve the approximately 4.5 million annual visitors to Estes Park. All services at Estes Valley Crisis Advocates are essential to victim’s physical, financial and emotional safety, as well as being 100% free and confidential.
