  1. Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan Dr. Nathir Rawashdeh, German Jordanian University National Mechatronics Day, Philadelphia University 23 April 2013, Amman - Jordan ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  2. Outline  TEMPUS Project  Develop Joint Master Degree  Establish Labs  Link with Industry  Jordan Mechatronics Network (JMN)  Online Forum for Mechatronics Professionals in Jordan  Free and Easy  Jordan Mechatronics Engineers Society (JMES)  Under umbrella of Jordan Engineers Association  Traditional Society ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  3. TEMPUS Project  Name, “Development of Joint International Master Degree and Life Long Learning Framework in Mechatronics”  3 Year project, started in November 2011  1 million Euro fund from European Union  Goals:  Develop joint mechatronics master degree curriculum  Linking academia with industry  Establish master degree and industry training relevant labs  Consortium: Jordan, Egypt, Germany, Poland , and United Kingdom ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  4. Industry Links in Jordan - JMN The Jordanian partners have started a “Linked in” group called Jordan Mechatronics Network (JMN) on 2 March 2012. ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  5. Jordan Mechatronics Network (JMN)  Considerations  Sustainability: forum should be self sustaining with minimal administrative support  Easy of use: it should not be hard or expensive to be a member of the network  We chose “Linked - in” because it is professional, and free.  Must define objectives and have a good logo  JMN Capabilities  Members can ask a question or start a discussion  Members can post job opportunities and company profiles  Members can post news about events  Members can organize group projects ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  6. Profile of the JMN  Vision: Become the expert mechatronics engineering group in Jordan  Mission: Advance mechatronics engineering in Jordanian industry and academia.  Objectives:  1. Share expertise and access to mechatronics labs.  2. Conduct joint research and development projects.  3 . Develop Master’s Thesis projects, and Bachelor graduation projects in conjunction with industry.  4. Publish joint work in conferences, workshops, magazines, and journals.  5. Organize events such as conferences, exhibitions, national days.  6. Provide training opportunities to students in industry.  7. Provide training opportunities to engineers in university labs.  8. Facilitate joint funding opportunities.  9. Network with regional and international mechatronics societies.  10. Adapt mechatronics education to industry needs.  11. Conduct field visits to industry.  12. Build a database of mechatronics companies and suppliers in Jordan.  13. List mechatronics job opportunities in Jordan. ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  7. Jordan Mechatronics Network  Started in 27 Feb 2012  Has 213 members as of 21 April 2013 (  average of 15 new members per month) ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  12. Industry Links in Jordan - JMES  The Jordanian partners have been on the forming committee of a Jordan Mechatronics Engineers Society (JMES) under the umbrella of the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA).  This is a full-fledged professional society with rules, benefits, elections, funding schemes, etc.  In 20/6/2012 we arrived at a final draft of the society regulations charter.  In 9/2012, applied to the JEA to open the JMES.  The Jordanian partners helped include education-specific goals and a student membership in the JMES charter. ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  13. Jordan Mechatronics Engineers Society (JMES) Some Society Goals  1. enhance scientific and practical knowledge of member engineers via conferences, seminars, training, and exhibitions  2. support of members logistically and financially towards contribution to scientific and applied research projects in the area of mechatronics  3. help establish, implement, and enforce quotas and standards  4. publishing a periodical specific to mechatronics engineering work  5. provide easy access to journals and standards applied in Jordan  6. encouragement of authorship and translation of references and books related to mechatronics  7. enhance links and cooperation with various official institutes, particularly scientific and academic, and companies specializing in mechatronics both locally and internationally  8. fostering cooperation between society members to facilitate the achievement of career, scientific, and social goals ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  14. Jordan Mechatronics Engineers Society (JMES) … continued  9. help members better compete for job opportunities through current training  10. provide specialized consulting through a society board  11. help member engineers solve career related problems  12. organize scientific, leisure, and social activities for society members  13. cooperate with universities to find training, and graduation project opportunities for mechatronics students  14. fund various mechatronics related activities and projects  15. conduct field visits to companies and factories in the area of mechatronics;  16. build a database of companies in the field of mechatronics  17. build a database of job market needs and job opportunities  18. provide marketing for market mechatronics engineers and their profession. ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh

  15. Jordan Mechatronics Engineers Society (JMES) Membership Types  Active Member: must be a member the JEA electrical or mechanical engineering chapters. This membership type carries the right to vote and run for office.  Supporting Members: must be JEA members of chapters other than electrical or mechanical engineering, and have mechatronics relevant experience.  Student Members: must be enrolled in a Jordanian university studying mechatronics engineering, and must renew their membership on a yearly basis.  Honorary Member: is selected by the JMES board, is of high-profile, and shares the goals of JMES. ”Establishment of Mechatronics Engineering Professional Groups in Jordan”, Nathir Rawashdeh
