In order to be promoted to 7 th grade you must pass the following for the year: • Language Arts (English + Reading) • Math • Science • Social Studies In addition, your overall average of all classes must be a 70.

Requirements for GT and Honors classes • English/Reading GT and Math GT require district testing and qualification. If you are current GT, you may write GT next to the course on your course card. Counselors will enter the correct course number for you in Skyward. • In order to enroll in 7th grade Honors Math, you must currently be in Pre-AP Math.

Athletic Period Requirements ● Every athlete must have a physical, medical history, and online participation form completed and turned into the coaches office in order to participate in sports and participate in the athletic period. ● Any athlete participating in a sport must be passing all classes according to the “No Pass, No Play Rule.” There will be tutoring if an athlete does not take care of their grades. You will have to schedule your tutoring around your sport’s practice schedule. ● Athletes are held to a higher standard and must exhibit proper behavior at all times. Any behavior deemed inappropriate will be addressed. If necessary, an Athlete Behavior Contract will be implemented in which case the athlete will be removed from sports/athletics. ● At the moment, an athlete is not required to play a sport in order to be in athletics but we highly encourage our athletes to participate in as many sports as they can. Fine Arts Electives - part 1 What is Art? Drawing, painting, charcoal, pastels, watercolor, and clay. You will learn and practice art skills, and have lots of fun, too! Art I - Art class for students that have not taken Art in middle school ● Art II - Second year Art class (if you took Art in 6th grade) ● What is Band? Classes are scheduled by instrument (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, oboe, bassoon, baritone, and percussion). You will learn from the beginning all about your instrument, how to make a good sound, read notes and rhythms, and have fun entertaining! Band I - Band class for students that have never taken band ● Band II - Second year Band class (if you took Band in 6th grade) ● What is Choir? For 7th graders, Choir is divided by gender. Students are in their first or second year of Choir, and strengthen their voices and find a singing family! Choir II - Girls ● Choir II - Boys ●
Fine Arts Electives - part 2 What is Orchestra? Students play violin, viola, cello, or double bass. Orchestra - Orchestra class for students that have not taken Orchestra in middle school ● Orchestra - Second year Orchestra class (if you took Orchestra in 6th grade) ● What is Theater Arts? This class offers something for every learning style and interest. You can be center stage, behind the scenes, or just learn to appreciate theatre from an audience’s perspective. In theatre you learn the process of acting, how to work with others, and how to share creativity with fellow classmates. The foundation is laid to compete against other schools in the performing arts and prepare for the intermediate or advanced level course offerings. Theater Arts I - class for students that have never taken theater arts ● Theater Arts II - Second year class (if you took Theater Arts in 6th grade) ●
Other Electives Yearbook This class involves the creation and design of the Eisenhower Middle School yearbook. Students will work as a cohesive staff in writing stories, taking pictures, and designing yearbook pages with online software. (Online application is required). AVID AVID is an acronym that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is an in-school academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success. Students must be enrolled in at least one Honors level class, and will receive the academic and motivational support to succeed. Students are coached by college tutors, and work in collaborative groups using a curriculum focused on writing and inquiry. (Online application required for students new to Ike AVID). Debate In Debate, students learn logic, persuasion, and speaking and debate formats. Students will compete in impromptu speaking, modern oratory, and Lincoln Douglas debate. They will also study philosophy, current events, and debate formats. They will research, write, and present original works as well as critically evaluate works from others.
Full Year High School Credit Electives - part 1 Spanish IA While in middle school, students have 2 options for taking Spanish class (and earning high school credit): Spanish IA in 7th grade, and Spanish IB in 8th grade (both must be taken in order to receive high ○ school credit). Spanish I (full year - 8th grade students only) ○ Both options earn one LOTE (Language Other Than English) credit for high school with successful completion of the courses. Texas high schools require two LOTE credits, so why not get one out of the way? **Fluent/Native Spanish speakers are encouraged to take Spanish in high school. (A placement test is offered in 8 th grade to ensure they are placed in the proper level of Spanish). Principles of Applied Engineering This course provides an overview of the various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and their interrelationships. Students will use a variety of computer hardware and software applications to complete assignments and projects. Upon completing the course, students will have an understanding of the various fields and will be able to make informed decisions regarding a coherent sequence of subsequent courses. (One high school credit earned with successful completion of the course).
Full Year High School Credit Electives - part 2 Principles of Arts, AV & Communication This course develops a strong background in computer and technology applications, a strong academic foundation, and a proficiency in oral and written communications. Students are expected to use information management, email, Internet, writing and publishing, presentation, and spreadsheet or database applications. Students in this class are also eligible to be part of the Ike News Network (our Friday announcements video). (One high school credit earned with successful completion of the course). Principles of Hospitality and Tourism Students will learn about the programs of study available in culinary arts and about the hospitality and tourism industry that encompasses lodging, travel and tourism, recreation, amusements, attractions, resorts, and restaurants. (One high school credit earned with successful completion of the course). Principles of Human Services Student in this class address knowledge and skills related to personal development and management, family and community services, and preparation of adult roles. Influences of socetal and technological changes, high demand human service careers, and management of the nutritional needs and dietary practices are included. (One high school credit earned with successful completion of the course).
