Damper and EXPANSION JOINT Systems for Coal Fired Power Plants Engineered To Order
Customers: • Engineering / EPC (Burns & McDonnell, Stone & Webster, Black & Veatch, Sargent & Lundy…) • OEM (Alstom, Babcock & Wilcox, Hamon Research Cottrell, Doosan Babcock) • End-User (Southern Company Services, American Electric Power, Duke Energy…)
What do the dampers do? Direct and control air into or around the components upstream of the process. Isolate process trains from each other. Direct and control combustion gasses into and around components downstream of the process and into the stack.
What do the Expansion Joints do? Allow the ductwork and components around the process to move independently of each other to prevent thermal stresses while still containing the air or gas within the system.
Products In These Systems: Front End – Pre- Back-End combustion Post-combustion
Front end OFA SA Boiler Furnace Air Heater Pulverizers FD Fan PA Fan Hot PA Cold PA
Operating Parameters – Front-End Key Selling Features: • Temperature – 100 F to 750 F (40-400 C) • Low Velocities – 2,500-3,000 FPM (13-15 m/s) • Some coal dust loading in flow • Quick acting actuation on pulverizer isolation dampers
Operating Parameters – Front-End Key Selling Features: • Pressure – 20-25” w.g. (50-60 mbar) • Wall casing thickness and reinforcements designs to withstand the maximum pressure and prevent vibration due to turbine flow pulsations.
Back end Stack SCR ESP Economizer FGD Boiler Economizer Bypass
Operating Parameters – Back-End Key Selling Features: • Temperature – 100 F to 750 F (40-400 C) • Low Velocities – 2,500-3,000 FPM (13-15 m/s) • Large damper sizes • Fly Ash dust loading in flow
Operating Parameters – Back-End Key Selling Features: • Presence of SO2 – Risk of condensation / corrosion • Designed with high nickel alloy material (C-276 or AL6XN) and housing protected with cladding on damper cold side subjected to corrosion • Seal air (when needed).
Selective Catalytic Reduction: SCR Dampers Temp of 600-700 F High dust loading Large sizes Thermal challenges Requirement for tight shut-off
Flue Gas Desulphurization: FGD Dampers Temperature 175-400F Leakage of low 1-2% to Tight-Shut-Off - 0.5% to 0% Guillotine dampers for isolation Louvers for isolation or flow control Very High corrosion
Operating Parameters – Back-End Key Selling Features: • Large dampers designed to be shipped in sections and assembled on site with ease. • EffoxFlextor supplies complete erection and testing procedures along with erection/commissioning supervision all around the world.
