  1. _____________________________________________ CLIMATE CHALLENGE FUND WHAT TYPE OF PROJECT WOULD HELP YOUR COMMUNITY? October 2014

  2. _________________________________________________________________ KEEP SCOTLAND BEAUTIFUL Keep Scotland Beautiful is the independent charity which campaigns, acts and educates on a range of local, national and global environmental issues which affect people’s quality of life. It is committed to making Scotland Clean and Green, today and tomorrow.

  8. _________________________________________________________________ CLIMATE CHANGE • Increasing global temperatures resulting in changes to climate • More extreme weather patterns in Scotland and across the world • Impacts on everything from human infrastructure, crops and ecosystems

  9. _________________________________________________________________ THE CLIMATE CHALLENGE FUND • Supporting community groups tackling climate change (grants up to 150k available for financial year 2015/2016) • To date more than £59 million in CCF funding has been awarded to 676 community group projects • Projects reduce local carbon emissions, helping to tackle climate change and lead to additional community benefits

  10. _________________________________________________________________ THE CLIMATE CHALLENGE FUND Support from Keep Scotland Beautiful • Dedicated Development Officer - project ideas - application - project implementation • Free workshops to increase community group knowledge and capacity

  11. _________________________________________________________________ COMMUNITY GROUPS RECEIVING CCF FUNDING IN THE PAST ∙ Arts Groups ∙ Sports Clubs ∙ Community Councils ∙ Faith Groups ∙ Student Unions ∙ Residents Associations ∙ Local Charities ∙ Food Groups Community Led Housing Associations Development Trusts Community groups must be: • Led by community • Operated on a not for profit basis • Scottish based • Legally constituted

  13. _________________________________________________________________ WHAT CAN THE CCF FUND? -Staff costs -Capital costs -Office costs -Volunteer expenses -Display equipment -Event costs (e.g. catering) What you need to deliver your project outcomes (within reason!)

  14. _________________________________________________________________ CCF PROJECT CRITERIA 1. Community-led with the participants at the heart of decision making Q. How and when do we engage with our community? 2. Aim to achieve a realistic and measureable carbon reduction in carbon emissions in your community Q. What do we measure and when?

  15. _________________________________________________________________ MEASURING CARBON EMISSIONS • Important for projects to establish a ‘baseline’ of carbon emissions • What will you be measuring and how often? - Energy – e.g. useage in Kwh - Food – e.g. weigh produce produced locally - Waste – e.g. waste weight that would have gone to landfill - Transport – e.g miles travelled by different forms • Input figures to CCF Conversion Factors Spreadsheet to work out carbon emissions

  16. _________________________________________________________________ CONVERSION FACTORS SPREADSHEET Double click to use! ENERGY USE Instructions on how to use: The tables below have been extracted from the 2012 DEFRA/DECC's GHG Business Conversion Factors for Company Reporting (Annex 1, 3 & 9) These conversion factors will enable you to convert activity data (e.g. litres of fuel used, KWh of electricity used) into kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO 2 e). The factors included below are a small selection of the factors most commonly used by CCF projects - for a more exhaustive list and for more details on how the factors have been calculated and how to use them you should go to the DEFRA/DECC website. Data should be entered in Column B (use column C to check data is in correct unit) and this will give you the total GHG emissions in Column E Conversion Factor Total GHGs (kg CO 2 e) Topic Amount Unit Details Electricity from Grid kWh 0.58982 0 DEFRA 2012 Annex 3, table 3c - electricity emission factors for consumption, based on 2010 grid avera Gas (LNG as used in Grid) kWh 0.2775 0 DEFRA 2012 Annex 1, Table 1d, Net calorific value Heating Oil (kerosine/parrafin) litres 3.0714 0 DEFRA 2012 Annex 1, Table 1b, by unit volume Coal (domestic) tonnes 3258.2 0 DEFRA 2012 Annex 1, Table 1a, by unit mass Wood logs tonnes 77.38 0 DEFRA 2012 Annex 9, table 9c - lifecycle conversion factors for biomass all scopes 0.01895 0 Wood chips tonnes 61.41 0 DEFRA 2012 Annex 9, table 9c - lifecycle conversion factors for biomass all scopes 0.01579 0 Wood pellets tonnes 183.93 0 DEFRA 2012 Annex 9, table 9c - lifecycle conversion factors for biomass all scopes 0.03895 0 TOTALS 0

  17. _________________________________________________________________ CCF PROJECT CRITERIA 3. Demonstrate how you will help create a sustainable legacy after the CCF funded period Q. What physical sustainable measures will be in place after the CCF funded period? Q. How will we ensure that project activities carry on after the CCF funded period?
