  2. Theme of the meeting: Understanding and identifying the needs of the re-entry community within the workforce system

  3. WiCAC members and meeting attendees broke up into small groups to address these questions: � What is working within the Workforce System for the re-entry population? � What are trends in the experience folks in the re-entry population are having as relates to access to workforce opportunities?

  4. Outcomes Members agreed that we need to work in concert with OEWD and the WISF to build understanding of community needs and trends regarding reentry of people from prisons and jails and the experience of what is working within the workforce system and what barriers exist specific to those within the re-entry community.

  5. Community Priorities � Highlight the Employment Non-discrimination Act and ensure that the Office of Labor Standards Enforcement (OLSE) enforces fair hiring practices that benefit job seekers in the reentry population � Prioritize pre-release employment programs and resources for individuals while they’re still in custody � Prioritize investment (financial, support and recognition) in wraparound services that help re-entry individuals overcome barriers and connect with life skills/job readiness training prior to employment placement

  6. Next Steps � Suggestion from WISF on how to move forward on priorities? � WISF Committees that will work with us on these priorities?

  7. Next WiCAC meeting � Focus on workforce development needs of Transition Age Youth (ages 16-24) � January 2011 – specific date/time/location TBD � Planning and meeting facilitation to be coordinated with TAYSF Young Adult Advisory (YAA)

Next WiCAC meeting (con’t) � Meeting format - � Brief History of Youth Workforce Development in San Francisco � Brief Overview of “DCYF/OEWD Youth Workforce Development Framework” � Group Discussion – Questions: • What is the need? • What are the access points for youth? • Who is and is not being served under new framework? • Recommendations?
