China visitor market snapshot • 454,000 visitors in the year to January 2019 – growth of 13 per cent • Annual growth of 9.5 per cent since 2015, including growth of 25 per cent between 2015 and 2016 • Length of stay: 9 days (holiday) (91% are first time visitors, 9% repeat visitors) • Average spend of $1,663 per visitor – growth of 15 per cent • Free Independent Travellers are now the dominant group, comprising around nearly 40 per cent of arrivals • 43% of Chinese visitors arrive via an Australian airport, 41% arrive direct from China • Top activities for Chinese holiday visitors include: Observing wildlife (81%), walk/hike/tramp (72%), Maori cultural experience/activity (71%), farm/orchard (65%), beach (65%)
