  2. Who is responsible?  The school district where the student’s private school is located.

  3. Parentally Placed Private School Students: General Concepts Proportionate share of federal funds to be expended for services On-site services allowed, including at religious schools, to the extent consistent with law Must be secular, neutral, nonideological (including materials and equipment) Section 612(a)(10)(A)(vi)

  4. Parentally Placed Private School Students: Consultation School districts are required to engage in “timely and meaningful” consultation with private school representatives and representatives of parents of parentally placed private school children with disabilities. Garland County school districts (HSSD, Lakeside, Mtn. Pine, CMS, Ftn. Lake, and Jessieville SD) hold annual meetings to obtain information and gather feedback . In addition, ongoing communication is welcome throughout the year. Section 612(a)(10)(A)(iv)

  5. Parentally Placed Private School Students: Services Provided • Jessieville School District currently provides speech/language services to students who qualify for such. All services are offered through an Individualized Service Plan (ISP). • At this time, Jessieville School District provides these services through contract with private therapists.

  6. Parentally Placed Private School Students: Consultation When timely and meaningful consultation has occurred as required, the LEA obtains a written affirmation signed by representatives of participating private schools

  7. Parentally Placed Private School Students: Disagreements The public school district has the authority to make the final determination as to the types and services that it will provide. If the school district and private school and/or parents disagree, the school district must provide a written explanation of why the district chose not to provide services as recommended by the private school or parents.

  8. Parentally Placed Private School Students: Data Requirements LEAs shall maintain and provide to the SEA data on the number of parentally-placed children: Evaluated Determined eligible; and Served. Section 612(a)(10)(A)(i)(V)

  9. Referral Process Vision and Hearing Screen (must be conducted before referral) Teacher completes Referral Form School District notified of referral request - Public Agency LEA schedules meeting Referral Meeting - Attendees: Regular Education Teacher, Parent, School Representative/Principal, Public Agency Representative

  10. Process Cont’d Evaluation is conducted once parental consent is received (in writing) - 60 days to complete assessment Upon completion of evaluation an Evaluation Programming Conference is scheduled and held. If eligible – Service Plan developed
