  2. Social distancing is not a new concept for the patients and families of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The #GoToYourRoom Challenge is an online fundraising campaign that gives our supporters a real chance to relate and empathize with our patients and families through social distancing, while creating an opportunity for human connection. St. Jude #GoToYourRoom participants who are already social distancing will stay in one room (examples: bedroom or office) for one day to bring light to the fact that social distancing/isolation is a norm for patients being treated for catastrophic illnesses who have compromised immune systems. The participant’s bedroom or office represents a hospital room that our patients are often isolated in while they are in the fight for their lives.

  5. Getting started suggested messaging for Chapter members Looking for a meaningful way to spend your time sheltering in place? Why not share with your community about St. Jude! Social distancing is not a new concept for the patients and families of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The majority of patients treated at St. Jude have compromised immune system due to the illness they are fighting. What we are experiencing now is something families at St. Jude face everyday. Spend the day in a room of your choice that will represent the hospital room that patients often grow up in while they are in the fight for their life! You will spend one day in your room of choice and share your journey on social media through messages, pictures and recorded or live videos on their social media channels hourly or every other hour. During this time you can interact with your followers, share stories from St. Jude, give updates about your experience, and encourage your followers to support the life saving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!

  6. Sample social media posting schedule *Feel free to post videos, photos, and other media on social media instead of live streaming ☐ 9AM Go on Facebook and send a second email to share about #GoToYourRoom, why you are participating, and how people can support you. ☐ 10AM Share a patient story that involves isolation Ex. Story about Hillary and her running a marathon around her hospital floor. ☐ 11AM Share a photo of you at the St. Jude campus or volunteering at a St. Jude event and talk about ESA’s partnership with St. Jude: epsilonsigmaalpha.org/ESA4StJude ☐ 12PM Partner/Friend/Helper brings you lunch to your room. Share with that person and followers about the Kay Cafe-tell the mac and cheese story. ☐ 1PM Share a bit from the Gifts That Give page and what the donations already raised are helping accomplish. Make sure to call out and thank donors! ☐ 2PM Getting stir crazy, so invite followers to join you in learning something from a YouTube video. Provide a few ideas and ask those watching which one you should do. (Ex: Learn how to say your name in sign language, learn a dance, etc.) ☐ 3PM Share what music you have been listening to and then share the story about Nick, his music, and how it helped during treatment. - Other resource: Songs that will get you through by St. Jude patient, Paishence ☐ 4PM Share how long you have been volunteering/fundraising for St. Jude and your favourite St. Jude moment. Challenge followers to donate the $10 they usually spend on going out for dinner. ☐ 5PM Reflect on what you have learned about what this quarantined experience is like for St. Jude patients. ☐ 6PM Get fancy! Dress up in an old prom dress or your best cocktail attire and share: I know a lot of proms have been cancelled this year, but patients at St. Jude are often unable to go to dances at their schools during treatment. Did you know St. Jude hosts a dance just for them?

  7. Best Practices At least once an hour give an update about your experience, your why (St. Jude!), and how they can help (donate to your page)! Always include your fundraising link in your posts. Send an email to your family and friends announcing your participation in this campaign. You can attach a pic or video message or link to one you already posted! Interact with your followers! Make sure this isn’t 100% scripted, but that you are taking the time to have a conversation with those supporting you. Add a few posts to your Insta and FB stories throughout the day too so people understand why you’re going live and have easy access to your team raiser page. Include your fundraising link in your Instragram bio section. Make sure people who are also experiencing social distancing or who are sheltering at home understand that this is patient experience for many of the patients at St. Jude for extended periods of their childhood and teenage years. Make it personal! Share your why! Why is St. Jude important to you and what have you learned or what has become more real about the patient experience while participating in the ESA #GoToYourRoom Challenge for St. Jude. Update your fundraising page with your photo and why you support St. Jude kids! Self donate. Use assets, tools and tips from stjude.org/fundraisingtools.
