Comprehensive English Language Learning Assessment (CELLA) Spring 2008 1 Which Students Will Participate In Spring 2008 CELLA Administration? � All active English Language Learners (ELLs-Code of LY), in grades K through 12 at the time of administration AND � Former ELLs (Code of LF) in grades K through 12 who exited from the ESOL program after May 26, 2007 and before April 22, 2008 � Students enrolling on or after April 14, 2008, with affirmative responses on the Home Language Survey, who have not been identified as LYs, are not included in the 2008 administration of CELLA 2 CELLA Administration Schedule April 22 – May 22, 2008 � Group Administration: April 28 - May 2, 2008 3 1
District Support in Assessing CELLA � Schools are responsible for the group administration of CELLA. � District will provide staff to assist in individual administrations for Speaking and for Kindergarten, in schools with more than 80 ELLs. � Database will be used to track district staff assisting schools 4 2008 Enhancements to Level A Functional Level Testing � Only one response booklet is needed per student � No Linking Labels � New GREEN section in the Directions for Administration and Scoring Guides Level A section � Do NOT use the Level B, C, D Answer Document to record student answers 5 2008 Enhancements to Listening CDs � REDUCED the Listening CDs from 4 CDs to 2 CDs and combined test levels: Level A & B Listening CD � � Level C & D Listening CD � A&B CD - Level A begins on Track 1, Level B begins on Track 4 � C&D CD - Level C begins on Track 1, Level D begins on Track 5 6 2

Test Security � Do Not reveal or copy test items � Do Not interpret items for students � Do Not change or interfere with student responses � Follow security procedures and test administration directions � NEVER leave materials unsecured � Collect materials daily � Place materials in locked storage *If materials are missing, IMMEDIATELY contact Student Assessment at (754) 321-4250 16 CELLA Test Material Security All CELLA testing materials are to be secured. � � Test administrators must be able to account for ALL test materials assigned to them. � Test administrators will be asked to sign materials in and out. Test administrators will be asked to sign a security � form at each school site. All Secure materials must be returned to Student � Assessment at the completion of CELLA 17 Test Administrator Responsibilities Before Testing: � Review Directions for Test Administration and Scoring Guides , 2008 Test Administration Manual , Level A One-on- One prompt book and CDs � Prepare room for testing � Remove or cover all visual aids � Check student Pre-ID labels � Sign the 2008 CELLA Administration and Security Agreement form 18 6
Materials Needed for Testing � CELLA 2008 Test Administration Manual and 2008 Directions for Administration and Scoring Guides � Test Books � One-on-one prompt book (Level A) � Answer Sheets (Levels B, C & D) � Pre-ID Roster and Pre-ID labels � Preprinted Grade Header Sheets � Sharpened #2 pencils with erasers � “Do Not Disturb Signs” � Return Instructions * Listening CDs and CD players are optional. 19 Test Administrator Responsibilities During Testing: � Distribute materials � Read appropriate scripts � Maintain test security � Maintain a record of the information found on the document 2008 CELLA Required Administration Information; Found in Appendix B of the Test Administration Manual After Testing: � Complete the CELLA Required Administration Information. � Make sure that all documents that are to be invalidated have the DNS bubble gridded. � Group all TO BE SCORED material by grade. Complete a Grade Header sheet for each grade tested, place it on top of the corresponding stack of TO BE SCORED material and band them together. � Group all material NOT TO BE SCORED together, place a NOT TO BE SCORED header sheet on top and place paper bands around the documents. � Return materials to the school coordinator. � Complete the Test Administrator Security Log & Online Comment Form found at http://www.firn.edu/doe/aala/cella.htm 20 Test Administrator Material Return Stack materials in this order: � Absent students (hold for make-up) � TO BE SCORED test materials by grade level � CELLA Test Administration Manual CELLA Directions for Administration and � Scoring Guides � CELLA Required Administration Information All NOT TO BE SCORED and � USED/UNUSED materials (Including CDs and all other materials) 21 7
