CCC Lighting Upgrade to LED Interior and Exterior Lighting Information Meeting 8/27/2017
What is being proposed? • Upgrade interior and exterior lighting to LED, including most fixtures • Cut power used for lighting by half • Spend no more than we're spending now, but gain long-term savings – We're going to spend it anyway. Let's spend it on improvements instead of energy! – Borrow $41,000 max from Unrestricted Endowment to spread the cost over 10 years → budget -neutral • Recommended by CCC Coordinating Council
Why do it? • It’s good for the environment, honoring God’s creation • I t will provide an example of what’s possible • It will save us an estimated $3,750/year, based on present rates • It will help shield us from rate increases • It will give us more attractive lighting • The neighbors will love it (less light in their eyes)
Why now? • If we wait, we keep spending on energy instead of on improvements • The longer we wait, the longer before we begin to enjoy savings from the improvements • If we move now, we receive about $21,000 in Maryland incentives • Now is the right time to demonstrate our commitment to God’s creation and our future
Financial considerations • Total cost, before incentives deducted: $62K • Maryland emPower incentives: $21K • Net cost to CCC (after incentives): $41K (Finance over 10 years from $138K endowment) • Average long-term savings: $3.75K per year • Short-term savings: $5.58K per year = $4.13K power + $1.45 maintenance not needed • Loan repayment: $5.34K per year for 10 years, including 5.5% interest Less than annual short-term savings
