BULLA UNIFORM AND PRESENTATION GUIDELINES The wearing of a Club Uniform is required at all official HRCAV competitions. Club colours must be worn on the rider’s upper body with the club logo displayed on either the saddle blanket and/or the upper body garment – ie shirt/vest/jumper. Bulla ARC club colours are ROYAL BLUE OR NAVY and YELLOW . White saddle blankets are acceptable for use during DRESSAGE ONLY. No other colours may be used for competition. When you are out competing, please remember that you are representing your club, and as such please use this guide as an educational tool when preparing for your next competition. These guidelines should be seen as a minimum requirement for good presentation at all competitions. THE RIDER Jodhpurs/Breeches: Any light colour ( ie banana / beige / cream / white). Any dark colour (ie black / olive / navy) are NOT acceptable for Showing or Dressage and should only be worn during Cross Country and/or Navigation rides. Shirts/Tops: Club Polo shirts may be worn at regular competitions but are NOT acceptable for TTT Dressage or Showing. They may however be worn for TTT Navigation Rides, TTT Show Jumping, and during the jumping phases of TTT Horse Trials and TTT Combined Training. Shirts can be white, blue or yellow (or combination of these), long sleeves are preferred as they create a nicer picture, but short sleeves are acceptable. Shirts must be buttoned up fully and worn with appropriate neckwear. Collared shirts require a tie, a plain ratcatcher shirt requires a stock however a frilled ratcatcher shirt can be worn on its own without a stock. Open shirts or shirts without neckwear are NOT acceptable. Shirts must also be paired with a vest or jumper. Vest/Woollen Jumper: A Vest or Woollen Jumper is to be worn over a shirt – you are not required to wear a vest or jumper over the top of a club polo shirt. Vests and Jumpers should be NAVY in colour and display the club logo.
Boots: Long or short riding boots MUST be worn at all times whilst mounted. Leather chaps with short riding boots are acceptable. Your boots should be clean and polished. Heavily rippled or blocked soles are not permitted. Enclosed footwear with ripple soles, including running shoes, may be worn in Led classes. Other: Hair should be neat and tidy, with long hair to be worn up in a bun – particularly for Cross Country phase where your back number will need to be displayed clearly. Medical armbands must be worn by all riders in jumping phases (including Mount Most Suitable or similar showing classes that require a combination to jump), and for Navigation Rides. THE HORSE Saddle blanket: Preferably should be NAVY or WHITE , with WHITE being acceptable for DRESSAGE only. Your saddle blanket should display the Bulla ARC logo. We strongly suggest that you have your saddle blanket embroidered on at least one side. Sew on patches are available for purchase from the club. Numbers: HRCAV rules state that numbers are required on BOTH sides of the horse for all HRCAV competitions. This can either be on the saddle blanket or bridle, or on a chest number for SHOWING only. It is your personal choice as to whether you display your number on the bridle or the saddle blanket, but it must be displayed on both sides of the horse. Plaiting: Horses must be plaited for TTT Showing, Dressage and the Dressage phase of TTT Horse Trials and Combined Training. Plaiting is optional for all other events, however the club would STRONGLY suggest that members plait their horses for any official competition.
DRESSAGE PRESENTATION: Although your appearance does not affect your marks in a Dressage test, riders should strive to present themselves to the best of their abilities. We all know that first impressions count and as a mark of respect to the judge you should take the time to make sure that you and your horse are neat and tidy, and on time! As a minimum your horse should be well groomed and clean. Plaiting and blackened hooves are optional for all but TTT events, however this does make a better impression generally with your judge if you do take the time to do these two things. White saddle blankets are traditional for Dressage but Club colours are acceptable.
SHOWJUMPING PRESENTATION: Whilst Show jumping is not as strict when it comes to presentation as Showing or Dressage, we would still expect you to take pride in your presentation and be neat and tidy with clean gear. Plaiting is optional and polo shirts are acceptable. HORSE TRIAL & COMBINED TRAINING PRESENTATION: You should present for the Dressage phase as you would do for any other dressage event. If you prefer to have the mane available to hold for safety during the jumping phases, take out your plaits prior to jumping. If cross country silks are worn they must be in the Bulla colours, no other colours are acceptable. Polo shirts / rugby tops are acceptable upper body garments for jumping phases. Body Protectors must be worn by all riders on cross country as per HRCAV rules. They are optional to wear for the other phases.
SHOWING PRESENTATION: High quality presentation is essential for showing, regardless of whether or not you enter Smartest on Parade. Your horse should be SPOTLESSLY clean and many people like to apply makeup on the legs and face to highlight and accentuate their horses’ features. Hoof black is also recommended to complete the picture. The mane and tail should be plaited (unless it is a Winter Woollies competition which specifically states no plaiting) and some people also like to use quarter marking brush strokes on the rump. Your saddlery should also be SPOTLESS. Sheepskin numnahs or half pads can be used,
however saddle blankets in club colours are generally the norm. WHITE saddle blankets should not be used. Club POLO shirts are NOT ACCEPTABLE for any Showing event. It is highly recommended that riders wear a long sleeved shirt with either a Vest or Woollen Jumper. White breeches / jodhpurs are not correct for showing – the colours of beige, banana or cream are more appropriate for this discipline. Long hair should be worn in a bun and a hair net. All jewellery should all be removed for showing – ie earrings / piercings. NAVIGATION RIDE PRESENTATION: Comfortable clothing is a must. If inclement weather is expected, you are allowed to wear a jacket that is not club colours and/or does not display logo. However your medical armband must always be on the outer most layer.
