Teaching Staff Comment Teachers at St Mark’s feel that the current proposed plans for building work is the chance for some much needed updating of school facilities. In providing small rooms for groups work, a bespoke kitchen space and the chance to relocate the early years together, this build has potential to have a hugely positive impact on teaching and learning. As a whole school it is currently hard to gather together at important times or to share class assemblies. We therefore look forward to being able to meet in a space large enough to comfortably accommodate us all. In addition to this the proposed building work will offer us a much needed additional space to deliver indoor PE lessons. As teachers we want to respond to the community’s need for primary school places and the proposed build provides us with the chance to accept three bulge years and the necessary classrooms to do this. Of course, we recognise that any building work on a school site brings with it some upheaval, however we feel the benefits far of this far outweigh the temporary inconvenience.
Support Staff Comment As support staff, a large part of our job involves working with either individual or small groups of children. Over their school life, many children will experience the need for additional support, be it for over a short or longer period of time. We have many fantastic intervention schemes which, in order to be delivered effectively, require a quiet, private area. At present there are only a few designated rooms for this purpose. With the proposed expansion, much more space will be available for us to carry out this vital work which supports the needs of our children so effectively. We too are also committed to providing the best education for our children during the construction period.
