SINGLE PLAN FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT (SPSA) • Fall - Annual review of goals and alignment with CVUSD Local Control and Accountability Plan • Collaborative – Team includes members of School Site Council, parents, faculty and staff, review/discuss/write action plan and allocate funding to meet annual goals • SPSA shared with site and community stakeholders • Spring - Progress toward goals is shared with School Site Council

REDWOOD’S ENGLISH LEARNER PROGRAM OVERVIEW LCAP Goal 1: Improve Learning for all Students • 41 active English Learners – Levels 1-5 • EL Levels 1 and 2 blocked daily (Grades 6-8) • EL 3 daily (Grades 6-8) • Bilingual paraprofessional support in EL Level 1-3 classes • Rosetta Stone & technology integration via student IPads (provided by EL Student Support Services), classroom desktop computers, & Chromebooks • Bilingual Facilitator outreach and intervention (students & community)

ENGLISH LEARNER SUPPORTS • English Learner team (Assistant Principal, designated counselor, bilingual facilitator, & teachers) review EL progress quarterly. – Review of student placement & progress based on CELDT, Lexile levels, academic progress, social-emotional needs, etc. • EL materials aligned with California Frameworks & CCSS • Technology: Chromebooks, IPADs, & classroom desktops

ENGLISH LEARNER SUPPORTS • English Language Articulation Committee (ELAC) – meets quarterly (parents, teachers, administration, & counselors) – Community speakers, discussion of current school programs, middle school requirements, progress toward academic & social success, Q & A, etc. • EL Teacher Coordinator professional development presentations monthly during faculty meetings – Effective teaching strategies & EL supports • Partnership with Boys & Girls Club: Collaborating to support students

ENGLISH LEARNER INTERVENTION LCAP Goal 2 - Maximize Student Potential through Effective Intervention • Tuesdays & Thursdays – end of school day • Classroom teachers & bilingual paraprofessional support • Rosetta Stone focused language practice • Study skills instruction • Classwork & homework support • 24 students attend on a regular basis

ACADEMIC INTERVENTIONS LCAP Goal 2 - Maximize Student Potential through Effective Intervention For All Students • Identification of students in need of supports – Annual review of prior case conferences/Student Study Team notes – Progress report and report card marks – Feedback from teachers: Daily observation of work quality & completion – Feedback from counselors: Student visits, information on accessibility & supports at home – Progress monitoring/data analysis throughout the year • Nearly 100 students currently taking advantage of weekly academic interventions

ELA & MATH INTERVENTIONS • Start of school day • Grade level specific with selected certificated teachers • Four unique classes, small group instruction • Standards-based instruction, fill in academic gaps • Provide strategies/supports for keeping up with assignments and preparing for assessments • Intervention teachers regularly communicate with each student’s teacher in that subject area

GUIDED STUDIES INTERVENTION • End of school day • Accessible to all grade levels • Students with the potential of higher achievement, but have limiting factors • Two certificated teachers, two days per week, one hour each day • Build study skills, organization & ability to plan and prepare for short & long-term assignments • The two teachers communicate regularly with colleagues to better assist each individual student

ENGAGEMENT THROUGH ACTIVITIES LCAP Goal 3: Engage Students through Quality Student Activities • Morning announcements delivered by ASB students • Assemblies focusing on character education • Lunch Bunch, clubs, & intramurals • Teen Center Outreach and Teen Center field trips for sixth graders • ASB Sponsored lunchtime activities – quad, field, & gym • Renaissance celebrations in cooperation with Child Nutrition

AT REDWOOD WE . . . – Work in partnership with the District to align goals and programs – Collaborate with parents and community members to engage all stakeholders – Provide opportunities for students to engage within and outside the classroom – Develop the whole child: Academic, Social & Emotional – Provide the tools and supports for all students to attain their goals and gain confidence – Empower students to achieve and to know when to ask for help and where to find it – Recognize when students need assistance and advocate for them
