  3. 3 possible scenarios for programming for September based on Gov of ON/Public Health Guidelines Return to regular program delivery from before COVID-19 1. pandemic, with enhanced cleaning, sanitization and hand hygiene. Continuation of current remote delivery. 2. A combination of face to face small group instruction supported with 3. online program delivery in compliance with all social distancing protocols. All 3 scenarios will have a mandatory online component

Keeping everyone safe and healthy We are: ● Following the guidelines of Toronto Public Health ● Preparing site-specific readiness plans (classroom specific) ● Ordering the necessary protective equipment and cleaning supplies ● Arranging additional, end of day cleaning/sanitizing at sites ● Liaising with and following protocols of co-located classes (landlords, agencies, libraries, community centres) ● Staff are asked to check TCDSB e-mail for directions at the end of August

Student registration for September ● No in-person registration, even if classes resume face to face ● Signs on instructional sites doors/buildings to that effect ● Admin staff will contact clients on class lists/waitlists, request confirmation of participation and advise of delivery mode (update client contact info - client must provide own email) ○ Stagger arrivals ○ Cohorting if necessary (classes divided into small groups) ● Admin staff will pass on contact information of confirmed participants to instructors ● Clients will be made attending when they first participate in class

  6. Learning Management System What is a learning management system – LMS? An online environment that allows for central delivery of education and training. Examples of learning management systems: Blackboard, Google Classroom, Brightspace, EduLINC, ONYX, EDMODO, WebCT, many others. Why use a learning management system? To have one environment that provides consistent, uniform functionalities of delivering instruction, learning resources and tools, tracking learner participation, managing learner assessment, connecting staff and learners and providing supports to all. What is the purpose of an LMS? A LMS is a one stop shop that handles content, registering students, designing and administering courses, tracking learners, and reporting.

  7. Features of Learning Management Systems ● Organized content and links to other resources ● Synchronous conversation and Presentation feature (e.g. Big Blue Button) ● Forums ● Online chat ● Learner enrolment and participation tracking ● Learner progress tracking and grading of activities

Benefits of using a Learning Management System ● It organizes all e-learning content in one location ● “One-stop shopping” for learners: Video conferencing and messaging embedded in the LMS ● Provides unlimited access to e-learning materials Tracks learner participation and progress ● ○ PBLA assessments and portfolio are embedded

  9. What LMS are we using at TCDSB? For LINC, we use EduLINC (transitioning to Avenue.ca) because it is an ● LMS that is funded by the government and developed for all the LINC programs across Canada ○ It will have an electronic version of the PBLA Binder ○ It will have a learner’s e-portfolio ○ It will have 2 PBLA self-directed courses for learners: stage 1 and 2 ● Request your course transfer in July. - must fill out a request form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6iiKW_e4qdrHD_xDhb6iXgfCA8sbU9Cg1kPSqe5ftWW1Jtg/viewform

  10. What LMS are we using at TCDSB? For ESL, we are planning to use Onyx -an LMS funded by the Government of ● Ontario. It will have an electronic version of the PBLA Binder ○ ○ It will have a learner’s e-portfolio ○ It will have 2 PBLA self-directed courses for learners: stage 1 and 2 Instructors must request a course in July, before summer break. ● Please check if your log-in works, contact Svetlana Lupasco at ● svetlana.lupasco@tcdsb.org for help. ● Go over the training you completed in April - go to 1click2learning ● Getting Started in Onyx: a mini-course for ESL instructors ● https://onyxon.ca/#section-1 ● Next week - you will get instructions on how to preview and select courses in Onyx.

Resources we are exploring ● ESL library - Enhanced version coming in the fall ● Onyx units - they were placed in Tutela to be available for Edu-LINC, Avenue.ca - a list of all units is uploaded to 1click2learning ● Licenced software ● Searching for e-textbooks ● Tutela resources ● We are searching for digital literacy resources for the lowest level, will be available for the beginning of September ● Other - recommendations welcome- please forward to your consultant

Characteristics of online/blended learning Our focus in the fall will be on helping learners acquire digital literacy skills to be able to participate in online/blended delivery as needed ● Facilitates a community of practice and learning ● Allows learners to practice and master the digital content at own pace and time ● Facilitates learner collaboration ● Helps learners acquire digital literacy & fluency ● We are considering all site and learner situations and needs (no wifi)
