Activities Week: 16 - 20 July 2018 In order to assist with the planning of the final week of the summer term, we need to assess interest for different activities. We are aware that about half the year group are already booked to go on school trips to Paris and Spain. The rest of you should consider the following options, and choose what you wish to do on the Monday to Thursday - Friday is already taken care of. Some events are for two days, some four, and some are flexible, so you can “mix and match”. Please approach the named member of staff for extra information and to register your interest.
Northern Adventures 4 day activity. Visiting …… Newcastle, York, Durham and a day at the beach! We will spend a whole day in each city visiting tourist spots. There will also be some time to explore independently. Approx. £75 for the 4 days. This includes train fares, admission prices for any activities we do 20 people can come on this trip and some money for lunch. Paddle boarding and Coasteering 4 day or 2 day activity Cost £125 or £62.50 - includes all equipment, travel, insurance and instruction Days will include river paddle, sea paddles, coasteering on either the Tyne or in the Beadnell area with Mrs Graham and Mr Gregory. Airfix model making Learn how to build a scale model of a plane, car, tank, ship etc. The only requirement is patience. Location Room 134 Cost £5 (or more if you want to buy a more expensive model) Lead by : Mr Hindle Limit on numbers : 7 2 days (provisionally Mon/Tues) Next steps – see Mr Hindle as soon as possible for a letter detailing what the activity is about and how to go about ordering the model(s) you want to build.
Conservation We hope to arrange some work with the National Park. This is in the early stage of planning, but would involve learning some conservation skills and doing some environmental work at a local National Trust property. If you enjoy doing something practical and being in the outdoors, then this could be for you. It will also provide something useful that you could add to your CV, and maybe even open up something you could continue to be involved in for the future - I know at least one person who has turned this form of volunteering into a career. Celebrating Diversity Miss Buchanan is looking into a series of activities, including at least one trip out, which celebrates diversity and different cultures/groups - more information to follow.

Y9 Media Activities Summer 2018 You will be part of the PCHS News team for the week. You will learn how to interview, film and edit short news stories and then be part of a team who will make an Activities Week News program in the TV Studio at Fuse. We will visit the BBC TV Centre in Newcastle, and other local media companies to learn about real opportunities to work in Media in the North East. Cost £20
GET LOST! Polish up your navigation skills before embarking on an adventure from the school gates. Also camping skills, including cooking on a portable stove, and a film depicting an heroic tale of survival against the odds. Monday/Tuesday and repeated again on Wednesday or Thursday (can’t do both). Led by Mr Gray Group size - max 16 Cost = £5

Next Steps: Speak to staff about the options if you want further information. Many will require letters and reply slips - please return these promptly when available. When you have selected and signed up for activities, fill in the list which your tutor will have - (not done yet). It is really difficult to make changes at a later date as this impacts on group numbers, costs, etc, so please make a decision and stick to it!!!
