What is the ACT? The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. → Certain schools require higher ACT scores for admittance → The higher the ACT score, the more scholarship money a student can receive
What does the test look like? English section- 75 questions, 45 minutes Math section- 60 questions, 60 minutes Reading section- 40 questions, 35 minutes Science section - 40 questions, 35 minutes (optional section) Writing- 1 essay, 40 minutes
How is the ACT scored? Each section of the ACT is scored on a 1 to 36 point scale. Your composite ACT score is the average of your four section scores, also on a scale from 1 to 36. If you take the ACT with Writing Test, you will receive a separate score on the Writing Test.
What does my child need to score on the ACT? NCAA minimum requirement: 17 (required to play college sports) Average ACT test score: 21 (required for admittance to most 4 year universities- competitive universities require a higher score) Scholarships: a score of 25 or higher will begin to earn scholarships. The higher the score, the more money you will receive Bright Flight: 31 A score of 31 will automatically earn you an additional $3,000 per year from the Missouri Department of Higher Education if you go to a state school

How to register? What does it cost? Students must register on the ACT website (act.org) at least a month before the national testing date. ACT Test fees The ACT (no writing) $52.00 The ACT with writing $68.00 (Note: students eligible for free and reduced lunch can receive a fee waiver from the guidance office for up to 2 tests)

What is ACT Prep? Nixa offers a semester-long, elective class students can take to help them improve their ACT score → The class is open to students in 10th-12th grade → Students spend 1 quarter of the class devoted to math/science and the next quarter devoted to English/reading
