  3. The St Charles Arts Council supports and promotes Public Art in our community. We have created the Art in Public Places project to give form to that support and promotion.

  4. St. Charles is a treasure trove of art – downtown, in the library, parks and park district buildings, schools, businesses, and more. The Art in Public Places project will catalog and celebrate this extensive collection, and invite those who enjoy public art to see and enjoy the collection. The project’s goal is to develop and maintain an inventory of art in public places, and promote that inventory as part of the story of the city’s rich cultural scene and heritage.

  5. The Art in Public Places project includes a web site, downloadable/printable brochure, signage that includes access information to electronic resources, and an APP that includes a map of selected pieces of public art and recorded messages about the artwork. These materials have been designed so that the experience is rich in images and detail, and accessible to people whether or not they utilize electronic media.

  8. All of these cooperating groups continue to emphasize arts and culture in their programming. The River Corridor Foundation is adding more public art along the Riverwalk. The Park District purchases artwork from their Sculpture in the Park program. Many of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership’s programs, from the Fine Art Show to Jazz Weekend, utilize arts and culture as a way to bring residents and visitors downtown. The community group that has founded the Gratitude Project is actively working on a new sculpture project to be sited along the Riverwalk. Public art has been and continues to be recognized as an integral part of the plans of businesses and organizations for a host of improvement, tourism, and strategic projects.
