Hounslow ’s Creative People & Places programme • Arts Council funding programme to increase engagement in the arts • 21 places in the country w ere aw arded funding • Hounslow has £929K over 3 years • Aw arded on the basis of an outline programme, developed after consultation w ith communities and small arts groups • Initial activities started in summer 2014
A Confident, Colourful, Creative Hounslow ! 10 year vision: • Our communities engage in the arts regularly & enthusiastically – Our tow n centres are thriving cultural spaces – Great art is available across the w hole borough – Local communities lead the development of the arts in their area – New levels of connection, collaboration & integration - w ithin & – betw een neighbourhoods & across the borough In 10 years, our communities engage in the arts at the same level as • London average 25,000 more people – In 3 years, achieve Outer London average, ie 45% • 15,000 more people – Front loaded – easier to start w ith, significant Arts Council investment to – support it
• Most arts provision in east end of borough • Transport across the borough isn’t great • Not much local arts activity in many areas • People find the arts expensive • Lack of local spaces to do arts activities • People don’t know w hat’s going on • Outdoor arts events been very popular

3 Core elements in the programme: Development of 4 hubs across the borough providing & • hosting community arts activities High-quality, high-impact outdoor arts events in Hounslow • tow n centre to develop significant new audiences Development support for local artists and arts groups w ho • can help to build arts audiences and participation across the borough
The Hubs 4 Hubs in key locations across the borough w here need is • greatest – Feltham, Hounslow Central and Heston and Cranford – 1 small hub in Brentford to ensure cross-borough connections & collaborations are developed Physical spaces w here people can participate in, and develop • their ow n, arts activities Each Hub delivers localised activity relevant to its ow n area & • the diverse communities w ithin it Hubs are focal points for the Creative People & Places • programme – Groups w ith Company Development Aw ards linked to Hubs – Mentoring & business support delivered at Hubs

Local Advisory Groups (LAGs) Activity at each Hub is driven by the local community around it • Local Advisory Group for each Hub – local residents, local artists, • arts groups, schools, youth groups, community organisations, residents associations, etc The Local Advisory Group w ill be representative of the users of each • Hub Will take more and more control of the programme of activities at • their local Hub, devising their ow n projects, choosing the artists they w ant to w ork w ith, etc Each hub is supported by a full-time Community Arts Worker in • Feltham, Hounslow, and Heston & Cranford Supported by Watermans in Brentford •
