  5. R&S Welding and Fabricating R&S Welding and Fabricating, Inc. originally began in a pole barn behind the home of Bob and Sue Rosenbaum 24 years ago. While working at Monticello Tank in Monticello, IN, Bob had started working on the side for the Pultz Company welding small aluminum camera housings which go into the furnaces used in the mills. When he was laid off at his day job he decided to make the move to start his own business. After outgrowing the pole barn at his residence he purchased a corner of five acres in the Winamac Industrial Park at 961 West 25 South, at west end of Winamac, IN. This is the current location. The building was constructed in 1997, and this is their 17 th year in business there. R&S Welding is the “go - to” business in the area, especially for Plymouth Tube Co. of Winamac, when machines break down. We also do business with some outside companies that are involved with projects needed by US Steel, Bethelham Steel and other steel companies in the region. This work involves custom water cooled camera housings similar to the original designs we began with at Pultz Companies. About eight years ago Bob designed a track bender for wooden roller coasters and named it the “Steel Twister.” The first one was made for Indiana Beach in Monticello, IN. Others have been made for amusement parks in southern Indiana (Holiday World), Sandusky, OH, Maine and even one for a group of engineers called Gravity Group who were building a coaster for Switzerland. About 12 years ago they were heavily involved with a company from Plymouth, IN (Pyrod) that utilized them to make break-down legs for cell phone towers. That was their busiest season and they even put on a second shift during that time with 10 welders/machinists. Pyrod ended up selling out and the new company took all the work in house. Luckily, R&S had enough other customers to survive but eventually they went to only having a couple of workers besides Bob currently.

  6. R&S Welding and Fabricating, cont’d. R&S has also manufactured brush rigs for local fire departments and S&S Fire Apparatus in Fairmont, IN. They are a job shop and pride themselves on the quality of workmanship, dependability and fast turn-around for their customers. With the economy of the past ten years being a very up and down venture as far as their sales and number of employees, it was important to keep their doors open, their business in good standing with their vendors, and the respect of their customers as they continue to move forward. Ideally, they would like to sell the actual ownership of the business itself and have Bob work in some capacity for the new owners. He would bring a wealth of skills and knowledge as well as networking abilities. He is a welder, machinist, manager, CAD designer, and general “jack of all trades.” He would be extremely beneficial to a new owner. They are also seeking Bob to have benefits o f insurance, paid vacation, etc. as they edge closer to retirement age.
