However all children are still required to adhere to the School behaviour policy and are aware of the traffic light system. If a child has chosen to break a School/Class rule, they will be given a warning, if repeated there will be an appropriate sanction.
Traffic Lights Green – Expected Behaviour Green – First Warning Orange – Verbal Warning Red – Incurs Sanction
Traffic Light system If a child is put on the red light three times in a day or five times over a week - then you will be informed. Next steps: Time out Report Card/Behaviour Chart Internal exclusion/Fixed-term external exclusion
Rewards For good behaviour and excellent work children are rewarded with monster dojo points. Children also receive verbal praise, Hundred Square, star of the day, stickers, a weekend pal, get to share work amongst the year group, a Wednesday gold star, weekly wizard, ASCENT.
Reading Children who read regularly, share books and listen to adults reading, become readers. Phonics is taught through RWI daily. Everyday, your child will take part in a variety of reading activities, which will include phonic sessions, independent reading, shared reading and guided reading. (Reading Reconsidered and Talk for Writing)
How can you help? Children will bring home a colour banded reading book that they should be able to read independently. They may need a prompt from you and it should be a relaxed, happy time. Some children may take longer than others to become independent readers. It is really important for them to share books with adults as they work towards being a reader. The children can change their reading books once they have finished with it. They will be encouraged to do this independently. As a result they may sometimes bring the wrong level. Their reading record should be signed by their parents. If your child persistently forgets to change their reading book they can be sent back in to change it at the end of the day.
PPA – Thursday afternoons. As a school we are lucky to employ 3 expert teachers for the specialist subjects of French, Music, and ICT . They will have the opportunity to learn lots of new skills including recorder playing, computer programming, learning French songs and stories.
P.E reminders At least one session per week will be outside so please ensure your child has appropriate clothing. Please ensure all kit is named, earrings are removed or covered with tape and hair tied back. All unnamed lost items will be taken to lost property located near the dining room.
Phonics Screening Re-take If your child did not pass the Year 1 Phonics Screening then they will take it again at the end of Year 2. All children who did not pass will be receiving extra support in Phonics throughout the year to consolidate their sounds. Please understand that not all children are phonically led and many very able children do not pass this.
SATS (Standardised Assessment Tasks & Tests) Year 2 will take KS1 assessments at the end of the year, however they will also be continuously assessed by their teacher. Children will be familiar with the format and all content assessed will have been covered previously in class. Test results support teacher assessment. More information about SATS will come nearer to the time.
Home Learning and Homework The Integrated Curriculum provides the opportunity for you and your child to work together through home learning. This supports and extends your child’s learning in school. Daily reading with your child – to encourage a love of books. CLIC, SAFE tests and Learn It strips will be sent home weekly to give your child the opportunity to reflect on their next steps and practice their instant recall. Spellings will be given out weekly to support your child’s next steps.
