Our Y12 Curriculum Students are required to attend: • All timetabled A level subject lessons • One timetabled PSHCE lesson per week • Any additional A level support • One hour of enrichment activity • All Y12 assemblies • Meetings with Personal Tutors as arranged by email The Crossley Heath School

The Importance of PSHCE We hope that PSHCE will give students: • An understanding of the world in which they live • Careers information including university courses, apprenticeships, work and other training opportunities • The life skills necessary to cope as independent adults The Crossley Heath School

  10. Careers and UCAS • Annual Y12 careers fair • Dedicated careers advisor (C&K) • Specialist UCAS advisor • Oxbridge application support • Help and advice with applications by experienced Personal Tutors • Visitors from professional and technical backgrounds The Crossley Heath School

CC and C6 Links and arrangements • Some students study one A Level or BTEC at Calderdale College, Ryburn, Brooksbank or Brighouse • These are subjects such as PE, French, Spanish or DT that we don’t offer here. We in turn offer Computer Science and Economics for students from these schools • All of these lessons are on Tuesday mornings or Thursday afternoons • We provide taxis back to our school on a Tuesday and to the partner school on a Thursday • Students make their own way there on a Tuesday and home on a Thursday • Mr Smith is leading on this so any queries please see or email him. The role of the Personal Tutor • Every student is assigned a Personal Tutor, often this may be their Subject Tutor. • The Personal Tutor should be the first port of call if a student has any queries or problems. • Meetings take place on a regular basis. This can be through one to one sessions or in small groups. The meetings are arranged by email. • At the start of Year 12, Tutors are responsible for assisting students through their transition to A-level. • Following the transition period, Tutor sessions are used to discuss academic progress, offer guidance and support, where necessary; whilst also monitoring student well being. • In Year 13, Tutors are responsible for writing references (including UCAS) and offering support with writing CV‘s and personal statements. • Personal Tutors should be advised where students attend medical appointments and university open days. Attendance protocols • Students must scan in and out every time they arrive or depart from site. • As long as they attend all the required sessions, students may come and go as they wish. • Students do not need to be in school at 8.30am unless they have a lesson period 1. • Students are registered every lesson and we check and follow up all attendance and punctuality concerns.   21. Attendance protocols • If student is ill, parents should email post16absence@crossleyheath.org OR • Leave a voicemail on main school number (option 2) • Students can request absence by email to tutor (medical/university visit etc.) – copy in VP and parent The Crossley Heath School

Enrichment • EPQ & HSLA run in school, both with UCAS points attached • Volunteer placements (Ravenscliffe, Calderdale Hospital, primary schools, Overgate Hospice) • Local businesses (Veterinary practice, financial sector, tutoring support group) • Music, art, sport and Digital Ambassador groups run internally • First Aid group run termly The Crossley Heath School

Independent Study Time • All students have time for independent study • The upstairs study room is available to any student who wants to study between lessons • The common room and kitchen area is open to students who need a coffee and a chat • Outside school hours, students should expect to study for about 10-15 hours per week The Crossley Heath School
