Routes into Higher Education • Straight from school • Degree Link courses: Further Education College- HNC > HND > Entry to Year 2 or 3 of chosen University course • Deferred entry: Gap Year opportunities • Degree ‘on the job’ Mackie Academy
What entry requirements do I need? Entry from school: • Your child would achieve grade A/ B in National 5 qualifications in S4 to meet entry requirements for Higher courses in S5 • Your child will then sit 5 Highers in S5 to support UCAS application at the beginning of S6 • Your child will then maximise their S6 with additional Higher qualifications, Foundation Apprenticeships and study of relevant subjects at Advanced Higher level • S6 experience could be supported by other activities eg, volunteering, leadership opportunities, relevant work experience Mackie Academy
What entry requirements do I need? Entry through college: • Your child would achieve a range of National 4 and 5 qualifications in S4 for entry to a range of National 5 and Higher courses in S5 or an application to college • Your child would consider a college application for an SCQF Level 6 / 7 (HNC)/ 8 (HND) course at college and progress appropriately through each level. This course should align with the degree link options for the course you wish to pursue at University Deferred entry: • Your child would achieve the appropriate range of qualifications suitable for entry straight from school but should make application for a year later • Gap year students should be clear in their application about their plans for their gap year. • Opportunities could include relevant work experience, volunteering, travel, earning money to support student life Mackie Academy
