Who are the Title I teachers? • There are two Title I teachers. Both teachers are certified reading specialists. – Mrs. Shearer – Mrs. Fagan
Who are the paraprofessionals? • There are two Title I paraprofessionals. – Mrs. Weiss – Mrs. Costa
What is Title I? • Title I is a federally mandated program meant to provide reading assistance to students according to need. • Over 30 years ago, Congress created the federal education program called Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act so that school districts could provide extra help to children. • ESSA
Title I Schoolwide Program • Its focus is primarily reading and literacy development • Every teacher and every student are considered Title I because of our school wide designation • The School Wide Plan prioritizes Title I support by providing instructional interventions in the Kindergarten through third grade ELA classrooms
How are students selected for small group instruction? • School wide assessments • Progress monitoring data
What are the school wide benchmark assessments? School wide benchmark assessments are given three times during the year to measure student performance against a set of uniform grade level standards. Some examples include: •AimsWebPlus •Study Island Benchmarks
What are the school wide diagnostic assessments? Diagnostic assessments are given as needed to determine specific strengths and areas in need of improvement. Diagnostic assessments include: •Heggerty Phonological Awareness •95% Group PSI •Exact Path- 3-6 Grade •Local classroom assessments

What is RtII? • RtII is a comprehensive, multi-tiered, standards-aligned strategy that provides instruction and interventions to match the needs of students. • The goal is to proactively improve student achievement for ALL learners. • ALL students are placed into an RtII group during their classroom’s RtII block based on specific skill need determined by assessments and progress monitoring.
What happens during small group instruction? • We identify instructional need and teach to that need in small group settings. • We then assess our instruction to determine next steps and levels of mastery.
What happens during small group instruction? ● Kindergarten- ● Grade 1- ○ phonological ○ gross and fine motor awareness skills with OT ○ letter ○ language with SLP names/sounds ○ letter names and ○ phonics/ decoding sounds
What happens during small group instruction? ● Grades 4-6- ● Grades 2-3- ○ phonics and ○ advanced decoding as phonological needed awareness ○ reading ○ phonics and comprehension decoding ○ writing
How can parents get involved in Title I? • Title I law recognizes the importance of parental involvement in a child’s education • Some ways to be involved in your child’s education include: – Volunteer paperwork/packets – Attending open house and parent conferences – Attending training workshops – PTO – Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
Parent Advisory Council • This is a fairly new committee of parents that help to guide our Family Events sponsored by the Title I team • We will be sending out a survey if you are interested in being a committee member • Currently we are having the meetings in conjunction with the PTO meetings, however these time will likely to accommodate various schedules
How can parents get involved in Title I? • Contacting the Midwestern Intermediate Unit which houses a Parent Resource Center. • The PA State Parent Advisory Council offers a wealth of information for parents – Workshops and conferences for parents – www.spac.k12.pa.us
