How Did We Get Here?

Background – Town of Saugeen Shores November 13, 2017 Council direct staff to seek partnership opportunities to advance a new pool and related amenities and that staff report back to Council in 2018 with preferred partner(s) and level of magnitude the partner(s) wishes to undertake.”

Background – Town of Saugeen Shores May 28, 2018 Council approves a memorandum of Understanding with the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce, and; Council authorized staff to proceed with a Request for Proposal to hire a consultant for the completion of a Market Study for a Recreation Facility.

What is a Memorandum of Understanding?  Expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action

Assumptions  Market Study  YMCA provides input into facility design and fundraising  Endorsement by Council and YMCA  YMCA operates facility excluding ice rink if affixed to the Community Complex  Both parties committed to keeping facility in “as new” condition with preventative maintenance plans.

Community Hub  For people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to belong  Provides families to be active together.

Community Hub  Full facility provides a wide variety of activities for all ages.  A full facility would include two pools, gymnasium, a conditioning centre, fitness studio, cycle studio, program and meeting rooms, change rooms.

Membership Access  Inclusive  Most economical way  Financial Assistance  Membership in Owen Sound 5300 (700 receiving financial assistance)  Membership welcomed at all YMCAs across Canada

What is a Market Study An opportunity to assess the potential demand for a new recreation facility

The Approach  Random Telephone Survey  Of a statistically valid and representative sample of the “population” of the study area.  The area that constitutes the Municipality of Saugeen Shores  Land lines and Cell phones will be available  How can I be part of it?

Final Results  Presented at the end of the first quarter to Council.

Next Steps  Anticipate a phone Call  Tell your friends and family to participate if called  Consolidated results will be presented to Council in the first quarter of 2019  Council will determine the next steps moving forward
