Salem Community Blitz Preparation Salem High School Volunteers from Salem Boys & Girls Club- Key Club Members volunteering Health Fair- Recruiting Student Tabernacle Church- Salem with us at the Blitz Event June 23, 2016 Volunteers to serve meals & Blitz Event Every volunteer received package with zones which covered local business, residence, community organizations, day cares, parks, and other open spaces

YMCA Overview 15 community service area, 3 full facility branches Health Innovation team • Healthy Futures programs with school partners • Prescription for a Healthy Lifestyle: internal chronic disease prevention initiative Healthy Food Access initiative • Newest area of focus • Healthy food nutrition critical piece in chronic disease prevention

  13. The Need in Milford 4,131 total student population 44% eligible for free and reduced priced meals 1,817 kids who are potentially without access to regular, healthy meals in the summer

Blitz Day Recruitment • Scheduled for June 16, 2016 (5 days before program start) • Created volunteer opportunity/description just for Blitz Day Great way to get involved if folks couldn’t commit to volunteering over the summer • Advertised through the Milford Area Humanitarian Coalition, local papers, churches • Presented to the Milford School Committee and mentioned the Blitz Day effort

Blitz Day Logistics • 9am start time, volunteers had “pre - registered” via email with our AmeriCorps member • Intern created maps/routes within 1 mile radius of each of our 3 sites • Volunteers formed teams of 2/3 when they arrived onsite • No teenagers/kids not accompanied by an adult Safety/liability concerns

Blitz Day Logistics • YMCA team provided overview/welcome to “ blitzers ” • Emphasize the need to deliver welcoming message Not a program for “needy” or “poor” people • Safety tips –i.e. don’t go in anyone’s home • Provided collateral/Project Bread door hangers Spanish/English overview of program Attached half sheet to door hangers with our specific sites/times
