K-10 West Leg (SLT) Three-phased approach (18 months)
K-10 West Leg (SLT) Existing (2014) traffic & safety conditions • Traffic -Mainline Average Daily Traffic -4,400 • Approx. 10,000 – 12,000 daily vehicles on SLT -31,700 • SLT operations acceptable with current traffic • Limited passing opportunities -38,600 -11,800 • Safety (2009-2013) • 218 crashes, which represents approximately 1 crash every 8.5 days on average -9,790 • Total crash rate is above statewide average • Fatal crash rate is above statewide average • Three fatal crashes at the north end Two-lane Roadway
K-10 West Leg (SLT) Predicted traffic growth
K-10 West Leg (SLT) Future (2040) traffic & safety conditions with no SLT improvement • Traffic -Mainline Average Daily Traffic -9,100 • Approx. 24,000 – 26,000 daily vehicles on SLT -51,900 • Severe congestion on SLT mainline • SLT/I-70 Interchange traffic does not operate at -62,500 -24,200 an acceptable level of service. The toll plaza can not handle the forecasted traffic demand. • SLT passing problems get worse • Safety -26,200 • Total crashes and fatal crashes increase from existing high level Two-lane Roadway
K-10 West Leg (SLT) Future (2040) traffic & safety conditions: SLT a four-lane freeway • Traffic -Mainline Average Daily Traffic -4,800 w/ no access -8,700 w/ access • Approx. 34,000 – 40,000 daily vehicles on SLT -45,000 • SLT mainline traffic operates acceptably with four- lanes -63,500 -33,700 • SLT/I-70 Interchange traffic operates at an acceptable level of service with system to system ramps and high speed, high demand. • Farmers Turnpike traffic can still access the -40,300 Lawrence area or K-10 via: E. 600/US 40, E. 800, E. 1000, E. 1200/Kasold Dr. • Passing issues are eliminated with four-lane road • Safety Four-lane Roadway • Crash rate below statewide average
K-10 West Leg (SLT) Responding to changes • K-10 corridor is evolving • All solutions will change corridor significantly • Multiple interchange alternatives considered
