First day at Frimley The Autumn term begins on: Tuesday 6 th September. The day starts at 8.30am with the register being taken at 8.40am. Lunch will be at 12.00pm. The day ends at 3.25pm. If you are going to be late, please ring the school office and leave a message.
What should they bring? Children will be encouraged to drink each day and may bring a named water bottle to drink in class. You may also send your child with a healthy snack of fruit or vegetable, to be eaten at playtime. A sensible pencil case.
Equipment needed Children are allowed to bring one sensible pencil case containing: Glue stick (not coloured) Writing pencils x3 A set of coloured pencils A set of felt tip pen A Highlighter 30cm Ruler (not bendy) Rubber x2 Pencil sharpener Blue berol handwriting pen x2
PE and Swimming days Our PE days will be: Monday – Swimming Tuesday – PE
PE kit We recommend your child brings in their P.E. kit on Monday and leaves it in for the whole week. Kit should consist of: Plain royal blue shorts Blue school t-shirt with logo Tracksuit (optional) navy blue or black Suitable footwear – Trainers For your child’s safety, long hair must be tied back and children must be able to take out their earrings. All P.E. items should be named – including shoes!
Swimming at Frimley Mrs Romp Swimming Instructor
Swimming Frimley children are very lucky to swim weekly. However they are not permitted to use the pool in the following circumstances: • If they have an open wound. • If they are wearing a first aid plaster. • If they have had a stomach upset they will not be allowed to swim for two weeks afterwards, in the interest of all children using the pool. • If they are taking a course of antibiotics.
Swimming Kit Boys will need a pair of fitted swimming trunks. Not shorts. This is a safety guideline. Girls will need a one-piece swimsuit. No bikinis or tankinis. All children must wear a named waterproof (latex or silicone) swim hat.
Homework Children will receive weekly homework . English and Maths will be given out on a Wednesday to be handed back on the Monday. Topic homework may be set each term. Spellings and times tables are completed regularly at school and you will be notified if your child needs any extra at home. Please help your child get into good habits, by completing and handing in work on time.
Communication Please keep up-to-date with news and events at Frimley through: the school website and reading our school newsletters. Autumn term parent consultations. If you have any concerns, see the class teacher at the end of the day or make an appointment via the school office.
Lunchtimes Lunchtime is from 12.00pm - 1.00pm. We have some children in school with severe nut and egg allergies. Please be mindful of this when preparing your child’s lunch box, as we cannot allow any nut products, including cereal bars and Nutella.
School Dinners In September you will receive a unique activation code which will enable you to access our Tucasi online system. To make a payment to the school using the internet you will need to visit the school website and click on School Dinners. From here you can “log - in” to your account using the Code provided. Until you receive this code you are welcome to pay at the office.
School visits and visitors School visits and visitors really help the children to learn. Last year, children in Year 3 enjoyed: A walk around the local area, speakers from the local community and visits to Butser Ancient Farm and Marwell Zoo. These can only be run with sufficient voluntary contributions - please support us to ensure more wonderful opportunities can take place again this year.

Reading in Year 3 In Year 3 we aim to: Develop a love of reading and encourage them to read for pleasure. Encourage children to become independent readers. Develop their comprehension skills. Make the shift from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn’.

What can you do? A punctual arrival at school will give them a good start to the day and a chance to do well. Children will be expected to work hard this year so a good night’s sleep is very important. Encourage children to complete homework on time and hand it in. Let’s get into good habits!
What can you do? Regularly check and sign your child’s red diary and use it as form of communication. (It will contain swimming, PE days, homework deadlines and a timetable for your child. It needs to be kept in their bag at all times) Ensure your child is always equipped for school and ready to learn. Please listen to your child read and sign their reading record at least three times a week.
