Year Three is an important year as they begin their Key Stage Two journey. Our main focus is to make sure your child is happy, confident, and working to the best of their ability. We want to make sure that your child is prepared and ready to enjoy the challenges of this year and the following years to come.
Important points to know: All we ask from your children is that they work to the best of their ability and try hard. There may be times when they find things difficult or may not understand something immediately. It is at this point that we expect them to try, and with help from teachers and their friends, they will begin to find their own strategies and ways in which to understand.
In Year 3 this year, there will be Miss Maitland • Mrs Brown • • Mr Dailey will be working with Year 3 for Learning Outside the Classroom • Miss Warren will be working with Year 3 during their P.E. time • Mrs Brown and Miss Warren will be taking Year 3 swimming. The instructor is Mr Morgans.
You have already received an overview of the topics covered in Year 3 this year. The Year 3 page of the school website will also include information and pictures of the topics covered throughout the year. Sacramental Preparation takes place during Year 3. The meeting with Catechists will take place in school. A date will be sent out to you either by letter or by text. The school has a programme of study which runs alongside the Parish programme. Even if your child is not making their First Holy Communion they will still be exposed to the programme as it follows the school ‘Come and See’ RE scheme.

Classroom Practice One of the roles of a Year 3 teacher is to prepare your child for Key Stage 2. There will be a strong focus on handwriting and presentation. Handwriting By the end of Year 3, all pupils need to writing in a legible and neat style. Children can earn a pen licence. Currently, all pupils are working in pencil, and in a few weeks time, and will discussion with the pupils, it will be decided if they will be able to move into writing in pen.
Important information Homework Homework is important in Year 3. It enables your child to continue practising new skills learnt in class, it allows parents to see what their child is learning, and is a way for myself to see where more help may be needed. Homework is relevant to your child and their learning needs, and it is important that your child completes it and brings it in on time. This is a life skill preparing them for later school years.
• Children will complete one task from the grid each week. We ask that they learn their spellings, • as they will be tested frequently. That they read their homereader, with a • comment made by the adult who has listened to them read.

Spellings Spellings will be ‘tested’ on a Thursday and during the week through their work. Children will be taught new ways to practice their spellings using a range of multi-sensory techniques. This is to help with their visual memory, allowing quick recall of spelling patterns.
The children all know that they can ask me about their homework at any time leading up to Wednesday. All I ask them to do is not wait until Tuesday afternoon to tell me that they have either lost their homework, or are unable to do it! Homework Club
Multiplication Tables It is vitally important that your child learns their multiplication tables. Each week they are asked to learn or recap on one or two timetables. When they are tested, they need to know them in a variety of ways and apply them to a variety of different situations.

Calculation Calculation is a vital part of our new Maths curriculum. Without calculation children are unable to complete many other areas within this subject. • Problem solving • Fractions • Measure
All the correct methods will be taught during the year, so your child will know how to answer them correctly. It is important that your child uses the correct taught method.
