Grade 8 Program – “Class of 2023” All Grade 8 Students take the following courses: English Social Studies Mathematics Science Physical & Health Education French or Mandarin(Mandarin Immersion Students) Applied Skills – Home Economics, Business Education, Technology Education Fine Arts Elective – Students choose between Visual Art, Drama, Band, Choir or Dance Students who require additional Learning Assistance such as a Course Support Block or academic support will be identified through meetings with the Elementary Schools and placed in classes that meet their specific learning needs. Information Session at 7:00 in Room 207 – The Learning Centre
Cross District and Out of District Application Forms If you don’t live in the catchment area for Burnaby Mountain but would like your child to attend here you need to fill out a Cross District or Out of District Application form The forms are available on our website, the School District website or you can pick up a copy here tonight. The form must be completed and submitted to the school office by Wednesday, February 28 th . If your application is approved you will be notified by the end of March.
When Does All of This Happen? The Course Selection Process is starting now Course Selection forms will be distributed to Elementary Schools within the next • few weeks The forms will be brought home, completed and signed by a parent/guardian. • On the forms, students will indicate which Fine Arts Elective they would like to • select i.e. Music(Band, Choir, Orchestra), Visual Art, Drama or Dance • Students wanting to apply for our Grade 8 Honours Programs will complete the • application form and return it to their classroom teacher Our Articulation Process Over the next few months our counsellors and administrators will be meeting with our Elementary School colleagues to discuss the specific strengths and learning needs of our incoming students. We look forward to learning all about you and planning for your success in High School School visits for each of our Elementary Family of Schools will be planned during February.
