  3. Terminal exams  separate papers for each Unit  main contribution to GCSE grade  May-June Y11  can not be retaken  focused revision  greater emphasis on SPaG  m ore „rigour‟

  4. Controlled Assessments  anything from 25 - 60% contribution to grade  numbers of assessments varies per subject  different time allowances  different levels of security and teacher support  differences in use of ICT

  5. The big picture  Year 10: 38 weeks Mock exams in April  Year 11: 29 weeks (to start of GCSEs)  Mock exams  Work experience  Exams begin in May of Year 11  Year 10: 60 %  Year 11: 40 %

Even bigger picture  It is now a requirement for all students to remain in a school post-16, progress to further education ,or employment with training, until 18  2016 school leavers will face several career and job changes;  GCSE grades are very important: allow progression to other courses, training  Best 8, not 5A*-C

  10. However, every student is different  Naturally calm or nervous ?  Positive or negative drama queen/king ?  Sporty or not ?  Biological clock ?  Sleep requirement ?  Healthy eater or junk food addict ?  Eating or not eating under stress ?

Heads of Schools: What‟s their role?  To oversee all aspects of Y10„s time at CVCC  Academic support  Monitor progress across subjects  Liaise with teachers  Ensure intervention or extension occurs where needed  Pastoral support  Liaise with tutors (your first point of contact)  Be available to talk to you (nice things too please!)  Ensure students are supported and valued in school  Intervene where necessary

Support &Guidance In school At Home  6 experienced tutors  Support network  Wealth of knowledge  A quiet place to work  Approachable  Enthusiasm for school  Interest in what‟s going on  Care  Sympathy when it gets too  ATHOS much  Careers Guidance  “Strength” when they get  Counselling lazy  Helping to get the balance  Extra Revision Classes right  Mentoring (Soft, assertive or learning)

  14. Y10 Expectations The Academic Becoming an Adult Challenge  Clear goals  Respect others right  Ready to Learn to learn  Complete HL on time  Support your friends  Organised  Be a positive role model for others  In uniform  Get involved
