Options evening 2017 Key Stage 4 Information: Core subjects: 5 GCSEs Maths English Language English Literature Combined Science (made up of Biology, Chemistry, Physics) Every student does all 5 – GCSE Exams end of Year 11 These subjects have already started….
Options evening 2017 Options: Each student then chooses 4 Options
Options evening 2017 Option Choices: Each student must select AT LEAST one from the following: • French • Spanish • Geography • History • Computing In many cases we would expect 3 or 4 to be selected from this list
Options evening 2017 Option Choices: The remaining choices are made from the following list: • Art • Business Studies • Drama • ICT • Media Studies • Music • Physical Education • Technology – Graphics • Technology – Resistant Materials • Technology- Food
Options evening 2017 Learning time: Each option has 6 periods a fortnight (But prepare yourself for after school, Saturday and holiday interventions – if needed)
Options evening 2017 “Triple Science” The 60 top performing students in AP2 and AP3 will be selected to do 3 separate sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
Options evening 2017 Overall GCSEs With the inclusion of Religious Studies which all students study in Year 10 only (and take the GCSE in June 2018), each student will have 10 or 11 GCSEs
Options evening 2017 Extra support for English / Maths • Some students will only take 3 options to allow 6 extra lessons a fortnight to help with English and Maths • We will have Parental meetings regarding this
Options evening 2017 No coursework! The following courses are 100% exam • English • Maths • Science • Geography • History • Business Studies The remainder have some coursework but this has been reduced
Options evening 2017 Some advice… • Read the guide • Speak to teachers and Heads of department • Speak to siblings / Year 10 students • Follow your interest and passions – but stick to what you’re good at • Look at future career plans • Every GCSE counts – you must aim to achieve in all • Look at the balance of Exam vs Coursework • And speak to parents of course
Options evening 2017 Key Dates: 17th March – Options forms issued 3 rd April - AP2 results – strong indication of ability to succeed Friday 21 st April – Final Deadline for return of forms 8 th May – AP3 exams start 29 th June- Year 9 Parents’ Evening
