  4. Math • Homework will be assigned M-Th Homework will be graded 5 points per assignment. Homework is worth 20% of the final grade. • Quizzes are worth 30% and tests are worth 50% of the final math grade. Taking notes is of vital importance in math and will be used as a resource for homework.

  5. Vocabulary • Each week your child will be given vocabulary words from our Wordly Wise program • They are to study the definitions using their Wordly Wise notebook • There will be a test every other Thursday (match definition to the word)

  6. Reading • Each week we will be reading a new story from Storyworks with comprehension and writing pages to accompany the reading. • Your child will work on these pages at school. • Students will bring home a reading log each week. It is due Friday with a parent’s signature.

  7. Reading continued • Students will also be reading silently in class periodically. • They are welcome to read classroom books, library books, books from home, or digital books (however, we can’t be responsible for any lost materials) • Make sure that your child is reading at home as well. Reading is the key to success!

  8. Writing • Students will be working on writing assignments in class. • They will only have writing homework if it is not completed in class.

  9. Social Studies • Students will have Social Studies daily with Mrs. Montoya • During each unit they will have a writing assignment, a project, and a quiz, which will be done in class. • Study guides will come home before quizzes. • If students do not finish assignments in a timely manner, it will become homework. • Students will practice cursive daily.

  10. Science • Students will have science with Mr. Picha. • Students will have a science notebook updated daily. • The notebook will be used for tests and quizzes, given at the end of each unit. • Labs will occur throughout the year. • They will practice math facts at the beginning of each period, as a transition.

  11. Grades • Grades will be posted as soon as we can on Powerschool • See the teacher for test make-ups or re-takes

  12. Rules and Procedures • Our classroom rules are simple: Be Responsible, Respect others and Respect yourself

  13. Consequences • Students who do not bring back their homework or have missing classwork will miss Reward Day and morning recess and or lose lucky bucks • Students who misbehave (talking at inappropriate times, being disruptive, etc..) in class will be given a warning and then receive an appropriate consequence by their teacher • Students who break rules that are more serious ( hurting another student, cheating, stealing, etc..) will receive a Behavior Report. After three behavior reports in one semester they will be sent to the Principal and she will give them a referral.

  14. Reward Day and Auctions • Every other Friday we will have special activities called Reward Day • Students who have work to make up will go to“detention” • Twice a year we will have an Auction. The kids get to use their Lucky Bucks and bid on items donated from the students and teachers. • Kids receive Lucky Bucks for bringing in stuff for the auction!

  15. Sickness • If your child must stay home from school please call the school to let them know. You may also request missed work/homework. • Do not send your child to school if he/she has a fever or looks obviously sick • We encourage the use of hand sanitizer and hand washing frequently but we are a big class and germs have a way of spreading quickly!

  16. Planners • Your child has a planner and will write in it every day at school • Please check the planner for assignments or notes from the teacher and sign it • Signatures will be counted and your child will receive Lucky Bucks.

  17. AVID • Advancement Via Individual Determination • Aka: Higher Level Thinking
