Meet Mrs. Burgess- 6th Grade GATE Science I was born in Mexico City, Mexico but grew up near Pasadena, California. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelors in Elementary and Special Education. I also graduated from NAU with a Masters in Educational Leadership. Go Lumberjacks! This will be my 23rd year teaching, all of which has been in Kyrene and in middle school grades 6th-8th. This year at Akimel A-al, I will be teaching 6th grade GATE Science and supporting students in reading intervention. I have a wonderful family full of nephews and nieces. My husband and I have raised two German Shepherds and now have a rescue dog named, Rosie. She is definitely the Teacher’s Pet! Living in AZ allows me to do all my favorite activities like hiking, paddle boarding, biking and roller skating (I’m just a beginner but I love it). Can’t wait for an awesome year!

What do students do in an Intervention Class? Intervention students get personalized online instruction from our I-ready diagnostic program. In addition to these lessons, they get small group support for grade level work in their regular ELA and math classes. Our goal is to close any learning gaps that students have to increase their skills in ELA and math.
