School Sponsored Events Upcoming Grad Events: q Grad Girls Dinner Dance ~ Nov. 21 st 6:30-10:30 at Italian Cultural Centre q Grad Guys Dinner Dance ~ Jan. 23 rd 6:30-10:30 at Italian Cultural Centre q Convocation Ceremony – Saturday June 8 th , 11am, Queen Elizabeth Theatre (students must arrive at 10am) q Argyle Graduation Banquet and Prom ~Vancouver Convention Centre – Wednesday, June 26 th Security opens at 6:30. *These are all DRY events for everyone.

Graduation Requirements Students must: ¡ minimum of 16 credits are required at the Grade 12 level , including a Language Arts 12 and GT ¡ must have Eng/Comm 12, GT, PLUS 3 more grade 12 level courses Note – many universities are now requiring Eng 12 plus 4 or 5 Grade 12 courses for admissions ¡ 150 minutes a week of Daily Physical Activity (DPA) – documentation handed into TP 12 teacher at end of each term. ¡ 30 hours work and/or volunteer experience outside of school

  8. French Immersion Requirements ¡ Sciences Humaines 8 to 10 & Histoire 12 ¡ FRAL 8 to 12 ¡ FRAL 12 – provincial exam ¡ Total of 13 courses in French language from gr. 8 to 12

  9. Provincial Exams/Assessments ¡ Numeracy Assessment – late January or June if not completed/want to rewrite l Students must sign-up ¡ English 12 – 9am, Mon. June 24 ¡ FRAL 12 – 1pm, Tues. June 25 ¡ Comm 12 – 9am, Wed. June 26

Diploma Verification q Lists courses students have either completed or are enrolled in, has final or interim marks. q Student’s are responsible for the information on their Transcript q Make sure it is accurate and all graduation requirements are met Please check: 1. Student’s name is spelled correctly, birth date is correct and student has enough credits for graduation 2. Student has credits for all courses completed and any mark changes are reflected

  11. Transcripts q Record of successfully completed Gr. 10, 11 & 12 courses q Unofficial transcripts are on Student Transcript Services Website q If a certified hardcopy is required – see Ms. Exell in Student Services q Official transcript mailed home July 31, 2019.

  13. Graduation Transitions (4 credits) Four credits for Graduation Transitions: ¡ encourage students to: Take ownership of their health & learning 1. Examine and demonstrate connections 2. between student’s learning and their future Create a plan for their growth and 3. development as a skilled, healthy, knowledgeable, participating citizen

  14. Transition Planning 12 (2 credits) In order to receive credit for Transition ¡ Planning (TP) 12, students must: Attend all TP 12 classes and complete 1. assignments. Attend at least 2 lunch hour presentations 2. Complete an Argyle Graduation 3. Presentation, April 15 th and 16 th Complete a minimum of 30 hours of work 4. or volunteer experience Complete 150 minutes/week of moderate 5. to vigorous physical activity

Applying to Post Secondary Institutions & Early Admission q In BC: Admissions deadlines: Jan.15 UBC Cap U, TRU, BCIT & Colleges- Feb. 28 SFU deadlines are program specific Feb. 28 UVic q Many Applications for BC are completed on line at www.educationplannerbc.ca q Decision of acceptance usually May/June (earlier depends on GPA) q September 2019 course registration occurs in June to August

Applying to Post Secondary q Keep in mind the application deadlines q Many universities base initial acceptance on 2nd TERM grades (Term 2 ends March 1 st ~report cards published March 7 th , 2019). q In TP12 , students go online to complete a Post- Secondary Institutions Choices form (PSI) which will allow universities in Canada to access transcript information from the Ministry of Education.

EducationPlannerBC q Application – online: https://www.educationplannerbc.ca/ q Information needed includes… - Top 3 choices for post-secondary institutions - Provincial Education Number (PEN) - Programs and/or Faculty (1 st , 2 nd choice) q Application Fee – ranges from $40 to $155 per institution q Transcript q Check status of application

  18. What About My Grades? Admission Averages q q GPA is based on specific Grade 11 and 12 courses – it varies from institution to institution (depends on the specific program requirements of each institution) Self-reporting grades q q 1st Term Grades—honour system Electronic transmission of grades to the Ministry of Education q q 2 nd Term Grades q PSI ~ Post Secondary Institutes Choices Form - link available beginning November 2018 Min. of Ed. automatically forwards transcript data to the BC and Canadian Institutes of the student’s choice. Final Grades – July 31st q Registration for classes – may be based on GPA – generally first choice q goes to students with the highest GPA

  19. Language Proficiency Index q Almost every post secondary institution has some sort of “English Language Proficiency” test. Be sure to check websites q The most common is the Language Proficiency Index (LPI ) q Register online at www.lpitest.ca q There will be one LPI exam sitting at Argyle in April after school. Date and Location TBA. q Cost approx. $115 plus tax q No walk-ins. Students must register online @ www.lpitest.ca before April 1 st , 2019.

Acceptance Unconditional Conditional q Grades meet GPA for q GPA is usually very early admission high q Accepted if grades stay q You are in! the same in August q If GPA is really high, a q It is very unlikely that an scholarship may be acceptance will later be offered withdrawn q What may vary is when you hear of acceptance

Out of Province q Ontario University Application Center: www.ouac.on.ca q Alberta: applyalberta.ca q Other provinces – Check websites for application process and timelines now! q United States https://www.collegeboard.org/ and www.commonapp.org q American Universities determine the eligibility of applicants by their Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) results combined with their High School marks (gr. 8 – 12). q You should write your SAT ASAP if you are planning to attend a U.S. university.

Provincial Government Scholarships and Awards Must meet graduation requirements and be a Canadian citizen BC Excellence Scholarships (55 awards of $5000) 1 student nominated per school 1) Winners demonstrate community service and 2) aptitude/commitment to chosen career path. BC Achievement Scholarships BC Achievement Scholarships recognize the top 8000 l graduates in the province. $1250 The Ministry will determine recipients based on l achievement in Grades 10, 11, and 12 courses that satisfy 2004 Graduation Program requirements, including elective courses. Grad Transitions will not be included. Path to Teacher Education Scholarship 20 scholarships for $5000 for students who have shown aptitude/commitment for a career path in teaching
