  5. Schedule School day hours are 8:45am-3:35pm; Wednesdays are always a day 0 and end at 2:35pm. Please plan accordingly. The first bell rings at 8:35am please be prompt with drop off. Reading Focus Reading Log: • Total of 800 minutes per trimester • The students are required to read 100 minutes on weekly basis • Each 100 minutes allows the students to move around our themed bulletin board, please see the hallway board. • The parents will total the minutes and initial before the students turn in their logs. • The logs are to be completed by each Monday. TIC TAC squares: • The students will complete 9 squares with various comprehension activities (book reports, dioramas, book talks, projects, reading log, etc.) • A TIC TAC sheet will be sent home at the beginning of each trimester • The students will have a copy of the TIC TAC sheet displayed at school to keep track of their progress.

Math Facts • Timed math facts quizzes will be given to students at the end of each month with a motivational bulletin board displaying their success (please see the hallway board). • In order to meet the expectations, students will need to achieve 90 percent on each timed to test. • Please practice basic math facts daily.

  16. Behavior • The school and the classroom rules follow the PBIS model which places emphasis on proactive approaches, direct teaching of appropriate behavior, regular practice and positive reinforcement. • In case a student breaks a rule and receives a “minor,” a parent will be contacted via email or a letter (no further action is required) • In case of a “major,” an Office Referral Form will be used for communication purposes between FV and home.

  17. Behavior • A behavior chart where students can clip up or down will be used (see back of the room). • Kim’s store; students can earn Kim’s cash to buy things at my store. • Each group can earn points on daily basis if all group members remain on the READY TO LEARN section or above. If a student clips “down,” and stays there for the remainder of the day, his/her group does not earn a point for that day. • The group with the most number of points at the end of a given time period will receive positive reinforcement/prizes. • Passes and Positive punch cards

  18. Homework • Students should read for about 15-20 min. each night and complete the reading log. • Students should also practice addition, subtraction, and multiplication daily. • Students need to write down daily homework; a log is used to keep track of missing homework. • Homework assignments will be emailed to parents on a daily basis. • While homework does not have a separate grade on the report cards, the student’s work habits score will be impacted based on their frequency of homework completion. • If a student forgets to complete his/her homework or misplaces it, he/she will be asked to: 1. Sign the classroom MISSING HOMEWORK LOG. 2. The teacher will send home a sheet for parents to sign after numerous late or incomplete assignments. 3. Student will be asked to finish the missing/late assignment.

  19. Devices Students will each have two devices to assist them in instruction. The devices will go home daily in a school provided bag to be charged. Please use only the chargers provided by the school to do this. If they do not work, please contact the school. It is the student’s responsibility to charge the devices and bring them to school the following day. Try designating a common area for the charging. Each student will have an email account for school use only. The teacher will use email to share various information and documents with the students. Students should use it for school purposes only. Each student will have access to Google Drive that will be used frequently throughout the school day. The teacher will push out educational apps to students that will help students with practice and reinforcement of various skills. Please do NOT download new apps or delete ones on the students’ tablets.

  20. Assessments All tests will be announced; pop quizzes can take place at any point during our units. Common Formative Assessments take place in each unit, ie. projects, essays, keynotes Most math assessments will be performance based, where students will need to explain their work and or problem solve to demonstrate their learning. 3rd grade assessments this year: aFAST (math and reading) Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment (fluency and comprehension) PARCC (reading and math) Report cards assessments applicable to the report card descriptors

  21. Birthdays • Birthday treats are optional. • Students are NOT allowed to bring in FOOD items to share with their classmates. • Some options for non food treats include: stickers, pencils, bookmarks, craft kits, etc.
