What To Expect in High School  Big environment  Construction  Expectations are very different  Self-regulation  Self motivation  Self Advocacy  Transcript  Official permanent record of every class you take in high school, includes attendance, used for graduation tracking, employment, colleges, etc.  Colleges do not accept “D” grades in core classes  Counselors Role  Academic Advising, Personal/Social Advising, Career Advising

Freshman Guidelines  Must take 7 credits  A year long class = 1.0 credit  A semester class = 0.5 credit  Attendance and doing/handing in homework are CRITICAL to success  What is Credit Recovery  F Grade = No credit  If you fail a core class, you MUST meet with your counselor to make a plan on how to recover the credit to graduate.  Credit recovery costs $$$  School Calendar  Two 18 week long semesters, 1 st semester ends at the end of January  Every 6 weeks a progress report is sent home  At the end of 18 weeks the grade becomes PERMANENT on your official school record (transcript)

  7. Additional Requirements for Graduation:  Academic Portfolio State test scores and work samples in: Math, Reading and Writing  Four Year Plan Created in the freshman year. Can be updated each year by the student. Used to guide forecasting.  Extended Application Completed in senior year within your health class  2 Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE) Opportunities for CRLE’s are offered in Health and advanced elective classes. Bring completed forms to Mrs. Moore in the College & Career Center. Don’t procrastinate!

Four Year Plan Continued JUNIORS– at least 6 credits English 1.00 Electives - total 2 credits Science 1.00 Math 1.00 Social Studies 1.00 SENIORS– at least 4 credits English 1.00 Electives - total 2.0 credits Social Studies 1.00 Following this plan will equal the minimum number of 24 credits required to graduate.

  12. International Baccalaureate (IB) IB classes are the most challenging courses offered at GHS for Juniors and Seniors. IB Program Options: Earn a full IB diploma   Take 4 years of a World Language  Forecast for Honors Classes in English, Math, & Science  Forecast Honors Geography  Take IB Tests and Earn college credit Take one or more IB classes in strong subject area  NOTE: Students can forecast for IB classes during the sophomore year. General University Requirements A minimum grade of “C” in core courses  4 years of English  3 years of Mathematics - (including Algebra2)  3 years of Science  3 years of Social Studies  2 years of the same World Language  16 academic credits in core subject areas .5 credit in a Visual/Performing Fine Arts class is recommended

Research classes more: use Course Planning Guide 2. or ask your school counselor for help Finish filling out forecasting form completely 3. Get signatures from your parent/guardian (required) 4. and teachers (for classes marked with a  ). On your forecasting day: enter class choices online 5. and turn in form

  21. Forecast Sheet Fill in personal info at top of sheet. 1. Mark classes with an “X.” 2. Mark Alternates in order: A1, A2, A3. 3. Plan for 7 seven credits! 4.
