Graduation Requirements May need to meet NJ requirements for PARCC Earn at least 120 credits total of required and elective courses Meet all provisions of District Attendance Policy 5113 Successfully complete the following: 4 years of English 4 years of Physical Education & Health 3 years of Mathematics – Algebra I and Geometry or the content equivalent and a third year of math that builds on these concepts 3 years of Science – At least five credits in laboratory biology or the content equivalent and one additional laboratory/inquiry-based science course which shall include chemistry, environmental science or physics 2 years of US History and 1 year of World History – Integration of civics, economics, geography and global content in all course offerings 1 Year of 21st Century Life and Career or Career Technical Education 1 Year of Visual/Performing Arts 1 Year of World Language 1/2 year of Financial Literacy 1/2 year of Career Education (infused) E-Portfolio All years listed above are the minimum amount required
Testing PARCC – Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College & Careers May need to meet competency levels to qualify for graduation NJBCT – New Jersey Biology Competency Test Take this assessment the year they take their first Biology course PSAT – Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test Tested in Grades 10 & 11 Take seriously since it may be used for placement purposes
Important Scheduling Information NJ ASK 7 scores 7th Grade report card 8th Grade 1st marking period/trimester grades Current course placement IQ scores Course recommendations may change after June due to: 8th Grade final report card NJ ASK 8 scores If a student scores partially proficient in language arts or mathematics they may be placed in one of the following courses in place of their electives: Reading Enhancement Math Enhancement Early remediation = Success on the PARCC Notification of these schedule changes will come in August by letter
Honors Selection Grade 9 Honors selections are determined by district supervisors, as per district guidelines noted in POS Indicated on course selection form Maximum number of Honors classes in grades 9 and 10 is four: English, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science In most cases, future valedictorians and salutatorians have had the maximum number of Honors/AP classes in all grade levels: If this is the goal, a fifth Honors/AP class should be considered both junior and senior years Ranking is determined by Board Policy 2624
