Scheduling Process (Continued)  High School Counselors mail home course selection letter and form:  Help your child make all necessary course selections  Return the completed course selection form and registration form by February 9th deadline  Questions regarding the scheduling process or your child’s courses contact the Triton Counseling Office  Changes to course selection must be requested by June 15 th

  9. High School Overview  Total Enrollment – 1,272 students  School Day – 7:25 AM to 1:59 PM  8 periods – 43 minutes long  Homeroom  SSR  Between Classes – 4 minutes

Graduation Requirements May need to meet NJ requirements for PARCC  Earn at least 120 credits total of required and elective courses  Meet all provisions of District Attendance Policy 5113  Successfully complete the following:   4 years of English  4 years of Physical Education & Health  3 years of Mathematics – Algebra I and Geometry or the content equivalent and a third year of math that builds on these concepts  3 years of Science – At least five credits in laboratory biology or the content equivalent and one additional laboratory/inquiry-based science course which shall include chemistry, environmental science or physics  2 years of US History and 1 year of World History – Integration of civics, economics, geography and global content in all course offerings  1 Year of 21st Century Life and Career or Career Technical Education  1 Year of Visual/Performing Arts  1 Year of World Language  1/2 year of Financial Literacy  1/2 year of Career Education (infused)  E-Portfolio All years listed above are the minimum amount required 

Testing  PARCC – Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College & Careers  May need to meet competency levels to qualify for graduation  NJBCT – New Jersey Biology Competency Test  Take this assessment the year they take their first Biology course  PSAT – Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test  Tested in Grades 10 & 11  Take seriously since it may be used for placement purposes

Important Scheduling Information NJ ASK 7 scores  7th Grade report card  8th Grade 1st marking period/trimester grades  Current course placement  IQ scores  Course recommendations may change after June due to:   8th Grade final report card  NJ ASK 8 scores  If a student scores partially proficient in language arts or mathematics they may be placed in one of the following courses in place of their electives:  Reading Enhancement  Math Enhancement Early remediation = Success on the PARCC   Notification of these schedule changes will come in August by letter

Honors Selection  Grade 9 Honors selections are determined by district supervisors, as per district guidelines noted in POS  Indicated on course selection form  Maximum number of Honors classes in grades 9 and 10 is four: English, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science  In most cases, future valedictorians and salutatorians have had the maximum number of Honors/AP classes in all grade levels:  If this is the goal, a fifth Honors/AP class should be considered both junior and senior years  Ranking is determined by Board Policy 2624

Impact of Graduation Requirements – Grade 9 Sample Schedule 1 English 2 World History 3 Mathematics 4 Science 5 Lunch 6 Physical Education & Health World Language may start in 9 th or 10 th Grade 7  Art & Design I, Concert Band, Concert Choir, Guitar,  Theatre Arts or Skills for Living 8 Financial Literacy (semester) & Innovative Engineering, Practical Computer Applications or Music Appreciation (semester)  All students should have ¼ of their elective requirements

Impact of Graduation Requirements – Grade 9 Sample Schedule (continued)  If Concert Band, Vocal Music or Concert Choir is selected, your child will not have room in their schedule for both Financial Literacy and a World Language  The omitted course must be made up in a future grade  If your child wishes to take all classes and skip lunch, you must contact your child’s high school counselor
