Classroom E Economy The Classroom Economy is an excellent tool for teaching financial responsibility and encouraging students to follow our School and Class Norms. How i it w works: -Students earn “Classroom Currency” for Weekly Jobs, Completed Nightly homework, and Good Behavior. -Students incur monthly expenses that they must pay with their earnings: desk rent, chair rent, textbook rent, and for other materials. -Students who don’t follow our classroom/school norms may be subject to fines to be paid from their classroom earnings. -The classroom economy helps students learn valuable life skills such as organization, the value of saving, and delayed gratification. Rather than being told about the importance of these skills, they actually experience them. -In addition, the system fits in well with of our curriculum. We’ll also have a little fun with it. After paying rent, students can save money to spend at the weekly Classroom Store. So don’t be surprised if your student comes home with questions about paying rent or concerns about budgeting. You might find it a great opportunity to have a thoughtful discussion about financial responsibility.
