Project Selection ● Met with Dr. Asllani - BME Department o Discussed three potential project opportunities MRI Brain Phantom MRI Compatible CO2 Monitor RF Coil o We selected CO2 Monitor based on feasibility
Background Summary Big Picture ● Patients with respiratory distress need to have their breathing monitored ● Typically done by monitoring carbon dioxide exhalation Zoom In ● MRI is another common procedure, ● Produces strong magnetic fields which requires specialized equipment Gap ● Need a MRI compatible monitor ● Current product very expensive (~$15,000) ● Monitors oxygen inhalation ● Real time remote monitoring
Current State Toronto-based research institute has an MRI compatible CO2 monitor on the market. But: ● It is expensive! ($15,000) ● It is not very accurate So we want to make something better and less expensive.
Stakeholders BME Faculty/Students ● Dr. Iris Asllani ● BME Grad Students Hospital Staff ● Doctors ● Patients ● Radiologists MSD ● Our Team ● Gerry Garavuso ● Mike Walker
Objective Tree
Project Goals from Objective Tree Finished product: ● Marketable to research facilities/ clinics ● Price tag of <$800 ● Increased functionality and accuracy
