Be Aware of Your Body Language!  Move slowly (no quick sudden movements)  Do not make direct eye contact with dogs right away  Approach at the animals level (only if you feel this dog is comfortable with you)  Do not reach over the animals head  Allow the animal to come to you!  Allow the animal to sniff you before you start petting him/her .
