Agenda • US 192 Feasibility Study • Wickham Rd. Concept Development • Hollywood Blvd. Concept Development 2
US 192 Feasibility Study • Feasibility of 4 to 6 lane widening from I ‐ 95 to Babcock Street • Recommendations from study o Focus funding on Ellis Road improvements o Intersection improvements at Wickham Rd. and Hollywood Blvd. o Re ‐ assess traffic patterns along US 192 after Ellis Road improvements are complete 3
US 192 Background US 192 Feasibility Study (November 2011 to October 2012) Wickham Rd. and Hollywood Blvd. Intersection Improvements (June 2013 to Present) Funded for FY 18 TBD * Figure excerpt taken from FDOT D5 Multi ‐ Modal Corridor Planning Guidebook 4
Concept Development Coordination • Coordination with the FDOT for intersection improvement concepts o Traffic Ops and Design Office o ROW Office o Long Range Estimate Office o Systems Development Office • Meetings held throughout project to review concept development with the FDOT and City of West Melbourne 5
Wickham Rd. Concept Development 6
Wickham Rd. Intersection Needs • Total entering volume of 55,700 – 4th highest in County • Wickham Road volume of 26,500 contributing to delays along mainline US 192 • EB and SB approaches do not have exclusive right turn lanes • NB and SB approaches do not have dual left turn lanes Existing Lane Configuration 7
Wickham Rd. Intersection Constraints Utility and ROW • No ROW available on the north leg for improvements Walgreens Parking • Utility poles located along west side of Wickham Rd. • In order to add lanes on the north leg: Impacts include the utilities/ROW o No ROW on west side or Impacts to Walgreens parking on o east side 8
Wickham Rd. Concepts Concept 2 Concept 1 Concepts 3, 4, and 5 9
Wickham Rd. Preferred Alternative • 3 concepts dropped due to low benefit/cost ratio High cost from ROW impacts on north leg o • Concept 1 and Concept 2 comparable operational benefits • Concept 2 preferred alternative Can construct both turn lane additions within the ROW o Concept 2 Concept 1 Concepts 3, 4, and 5 10
Wickham Rd. Preferred Alternative 11
Hollywood Blvd. Concept Development 12
Hollywood Blvd. Intersection Needs • Total entering volume of 49,000 – 14th highest in County • Lack of adequate lanes on Hollywood Blvd. contributing to delays along mainline US 192 • The SB approach right turn volume is over 600 in the PM peak hour Existing Lane Configuration 13
Hollywood Blvd. Intersection Constraints • No ROW available on the south leg for improvements • In order to add lanes and Barnes & Noble Parking sidewalk on the south leg: Impacts to SW corner parcels, o and TGI Friday’s on west side Formerly or Coeye Impacts to Barnes & Noble on o east side Farm Store No ROW 14
Hollywood Blvd. Concepts Concept 1 Concepts 2, 3 and 4 15
Hollywood Blvd. Preferred Alternative • South leg of intersection planned to be widened from 2 to 4 lanes, including sidewalk on both sides Concepts 1 and 2 do not coincide with plan o • Concepts 3 and 4 are consistent with 4 laning plans Concept 3 impacts the Barnes & Noble parking with unknown drainage impact/cost • Concept 4 is preferred alternative due to unknown drainage impacts for Concept 3 Full parcel acquisitions of the two properties on SW corner needed 16
Hollywood Blvd. Preferred Alternative 17
Cost Estimates Intersection Design (FY 18) ROW Construction Total Cost Wickham Rd. $720,000 $0 $990,000 $1,710,000 Hollywood Blvd. $630,000 $5,760,000 $3,610,000 $10,000,000 18
