Understanding Dyslexia Phonology and Reading Lab @ NEU PI: Dr. Iris Berent Presented by: Xu Zhao Many thanks to OpenDyslexic Font
Wiki: Dyslexia is characterized by difficulty with learning to read fluently and with accurate comprehension despite normal or above-average intelligence.
Dyslexia is just about reading. It has nothing to do with intelligence!
A lot of famous people have dyslexia
Individuals with dyslexia have troubles with: 1. reading nonwords (e.g.,does fone sound like a real word?) 2. discriminating speech sounds(e.g., bee vs. pea)
But reading is still too broad a term. It has a lot of components. Researchers are trying to find out which component directly speaks to this disorder.
