Heathrow – incident to aircraft – Feb 2011 Aircraft aborted take off - number 1 engine failed at 110kts Security Guards confirm seeing flames and a noticeable double thump of pressure Multiple FOD radar activation Checker advise of large object found in block 84, Seagull advise of large object in block 84. Checker advise further pieces of FOD found on southern contact BLK 85/86 and GA15 consisting of Honeycomb fragments. All FOD radar activations accounted for, DMA identifying prior departures for consideration. Engineers confirm parts retrieved are internal engine parts from A/C. Full width floodlight search/inspection commenced from Block 100 - 87 with MT, field teams and all leaders, Ops 3x
AC part found on Rwy – STN – Feb 2011 During a full runway inspection at approximately 1500, panel with sensor was spotted on block 2 (north side) at the edge of the runway. Inspection resumed with no further parts being found. Pilot of a Gulfstream IV identified FOD as a ‘Challenger’ part. Part belonged to aircraft which had originally departed at 1159. A FOD/Bird inspection was completed at 1232 Part was found on subsequent full inspection in clear conditions after A/F Weather Safeguarding was cancelled. GHO confirmed the details and the part was returned to them. Part was security sensor from starboard gear well
