Environmental & Site Factors -Former Superfund/Landfill (mid 1960's) -City Utilities Water Main Replacement 02 -Sac River Watershed is a Priority Watershed -National Environmental Protection Agency Review: took 22 months -2 rounds of additional testing with Environmental Works -Trail under construction at each end, final length ~1.44 miles -Spring 2020: 8+ inches above average rainfall Time 1998: Vision 20/20: Springfield-Greene County Comprehensive Plan TRASH TO TREASURE 2004: EPA's Return to Use Initiative, 1 of 11 Demonstration Sites 2016: Environmental Covenants updated to allow for recreational use 2017: Recreational Trails Program Grantee 2018: Government Shut-Down 2020: January 6th issued contractor Notice to Proceed Budget 2016: Determined Engineer's Estimate 2016-2017: Raised Funds Balancing Act 2019: Lowest construction bid was +$135,000 2020: OG applied and received $135,000 Mission Related Investment (some folks call this a loan) Total Project: ~$480,000

  5. Connections 03 History, Culture & Natural Environment Trails not only connect us to the places we want to go, but they also serve as connections to our past and to the natural world around us. This corridor is rich with many items to highlight. We use interpretive kiosks to tell these stories. Additionally, we will be integrating public art into this corridor to further enhance the story telling component. TRASH TO TREASURE

  7. On-going Trail Management Now What? 01 The trail is now a part of the Springfield-Greene County Park Board and they take over the on-going maintenance and management of the trail. Installation of Public Art 02 We will be installing one large sculpture and 2-3 murals. Next Trail Gaps on this Alignment 03 Connecting from Truman Elementary School east to the segment of trail built at Valley Water Mill. Connecting to Sac River Mtn. Bike Trails. TRASH TO TREASURE

Working with the City of Springfield and Ozark Greenways to utilize part of the Fulbright Landfill Superfund Site as a recreational trail is a huge success and another example of how creative thinking and collaboration can turn an old landfill into a productive use for the community. r.
