Toe River Food Security Network A rural network of organizations in Yancey & Mitchell Counties working toward community food security Prepared for the WNC Foodshed Summit January 29, 2016
Creating & strengthening relationships so that information and resources can be exchanged to improve food security in the region.
We support existing and emerging projects that address barriers to becoming food secure: ● Yancey Food Ministry ● Main Street Pastors- Bridges Out of Poverty ● Gleaning ● Diabetes Food Pantry ● Local Gov’t Agriculture Task Force
We aim to build community food security by: ● making healthy food & food education easily accessible to families in a respectful and dignified way ● working toward a community food system for all that promotes farming as an economic driver ● connecting food insecure people with resources to reduce poverty
Cooking demonstrations at Harvest Tables gather community & AFP resources to offer healthy food and recipes with food grown within Yancey & Mitchell Counties
