Title: Pinball Roger Norcross/Patrick Barberio, New Paltz Rnorcrosse@newpaltz.k12.ny.us,pbarberio@newpaltz.k12.ny.us Pinball Set Up GYM 0 � -------PolySpots with pin on top 0 ^ x x 0 � ------Make mirror image across 0 x x 0 ^ x x 0 on other side 0 x Cones with JRopes tied 0 0 in middle across gym 0 0 x ^ x x 0 0 x x 0 0 x x 0 0 x x ^ 0 0 x x 0 0 x x ^ 0 X=squad spots with students on them, each have a ball to start 0=a poly spot on ground first, then a pin set on top of it ^=a cone in the middle of the gym dividing gym into 2 sides, tie rope from cone to cone Pinball Rules -The students must stay on their side at all times. -You may not touch the rope. -You may pick up only one ball at a time. -You may not slide on your knees or run at all. -No one is allowed EVER to hit another person with the ball on purpose. -If your pin gets knocked over on your side pick it up. -You must keep your side clean and free of balls. -You must try to knock the pins over on the other side. -There are many ways to help your side, you may keep your side clean, try to protect the pins, and you can be the person trying to knock over the pins on the other side. -Try to catch a ball in flight to try to stop it. -Divide up the class equally on both sides. - After the warm up. Divide up the class evenly. Have the students sit in a squad spot on the side that their sitting on. Hand out one ball to every student and have them put it on the ground in front of them and keep their hands on their lap. The following are the different ways to have the ball travel either under or over the net. Use the music to signal the start of the activity, and stop it to end the activity. Rolling -The students will place the ball in their favorite hand. They must put their opposite foot forward, bend that front knee, swing the rolling arm back (TICK), then swing/roll it forward to release the ball (TOCK). When holding the ball, make sure the palm is up when holding the ball, and make sure their thumb is on top as well. Soccer Throw In -Place 2 big hands on the ball. Take the ball and bring it behind the head, scratch your back or neck with ball. Take a step forward with the opposite foot. Throw the ball equally with the 2 hands over the head and follow through. The back foot will drag forward while following through with the throwing motion. Kicking -The ball must remain on the ground at all times. The students may only use their hands to pick up the pins, or to catch a ball coming straight at them. When kicking a ball, take 2-3 steps behind the ball. Take a 2-3 step jog approach to the ball striking the ball with their favorite foot. When kicking the ball, use the instep of the foot, or inside the big toe of their favorite foot. Volleyball Serve (Underhand) -Take a step with the opposite foot.. Hold the ball in the opposite hand. Hold the ball out in front and from the side. Swing your hand in a pendulum motion. Verbally swing your arm and say “tick-tock”. Next drop the ball and strike or strike the ball out of your opposite hand. Volleyball Serve (Overhand) -Take a step with the opposite foot. Hold the ball in the opposite hand. Toss the ball up one arms length. Strike the ball with an overhand motion with your strong hand. (Toss, Step, Strike) Punting -Hold the ball with two hands out front. Step with the opposite foot. Keep your eyes on the ball. Now either drop the ball and punt or give the ball a chin high toss and punt. Make sure you have no one infront of you when you are punting. Rules first to be explained prior to playing the activity
-Must stay on your side at all times -Don’t touch the rope at any time -May only pick up one ball at a time -No running -No sliding on floors -No throwing at other people on purpose -Keep the ball away from your face and mouth -Do not sit or step on the ball -If your side’s pins get knocked over, you must pick them back up -Keep your side free and clean of any balls by retrieving balls and getting them across to the other side -Try to knock over the other side’s pins -You may catch ball in flight to stop it -Music starts and stops activity Place students evenly on sides -The following are the activities and skills that the students can move the ball by -Give each activity about five minutes before moving to the next skill Soccer Throw In Use 2 big hands Hold ball behind the head Throw ball w/ 2 feet on ground Follow throw Rolling Bend knees Opposite foot forward Point and roll ball towards target Swing ball in a tic toc motion Follow through Overhand Throw Stand sideways towards target Make an “L” with favorite hand Step and throw towards target with opposite foot Follow through and rotate hips Kicking Use instep or inside of the foot Dribble ball with feet at arms length Ball must be kicked under rope Plant opposite foot to side of the ball Follow through
Underhand/Overhand Strike Opposite foot forward Hold and toss ball up in opposite hand Strike ball with favorite hand using palm and fingers, not the fist Stand sideways Follow through Punting Step with opposite foot Drop ball and kick with favorite foot Kicking foot must follow through Give a ball out to every student to start activity Use music to start and stop the students Emphasize the different jobs that can take place during this game 1 help keep your side clean 2 protect the pins and pick them up when they fall on your side 3 knock over the other side’s pins Closure Tell a friend your favorite skill Have the students tell a friend about the muscles they used to move the ball today Line students up by the color of the ball that they have in their possession
