  4. … for the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa 2016 – 2025 (IDDA III) • Africa remains the least industrialized, poorest and the most vulnerable continent, • In spite of its immense economic and social potential, and the many resolutions, decisions, declarations, initiatives and development frameworks • Global initiative in support of Africa’s industrialization • Complements other key development initiatives, most notably the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development • Acknowledgment by the international community of the important link between industrialization and development • Affirmation of the importance of industrialization in supporting Africa’s own efforts towards sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and accelerated development 4

Key elements of IDDA III resolution • July 2016, the period between 2016-2025 was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly as “Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa underlining the need for sustainable industrialization of the continent . • Calls upon the AUC, NEPAD, UNECA and specifically, UNIDO to develop, operationalize and lead the implementation of the programme for the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa. • Encourages UNIDO to mobilize adequate resources • Invites UNIDO to scale up technical assistance to African countries in accordance with its mandate to promote Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) 5

Key elements of IDDA III resolution • Invites UNIDO to foster partnerships with other relevant entities in the UNDS and to promote necessary linkages to develop joint initiatives in favor of industrialization • Invites UNIDO to strengthen public-private partnerships with a range of stakeholders • Calls for enhanced international cooperation in support of Africa’s industrialization, including through IDDA III implementation • Invites the international community, particularly bilateral and multilateral partners, UN system, global and regional financial institutions , in particular the AfDB, NDB, WB, IMF to ensure full support for the implementation of IDDA III in accordance with their respective mandates 6
