  3. 21/03/2018 Internet of Things  IoT devices need to communicate with the world/servers/end users  3G/4G/WiFi connections may not always be available (or cost effective)  A purpose-built, IoT network is needed to enable low-cost and effective communication IoT devices  Enter LoRaWAN 3

  4. 21/03/2018 LoRaWAN  LoRaWAN™ - A Long Range Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technology operating a licence-free radio band (868MHz in EU), providing:  Long range connections  Secure communications  Low power communications (longer battery life)  Low data rates (0.3 – 50 kbps)  In practical tests rural transmission ranges of 15-20 km and urban transmission ranges of 3-5 km LoRaWAN 4

  5. 21/03/2018 LPWAN NI  LPWAN NI is a NI Consortium network involving;  NI councils, multi-national private business, the country’s tourism development sector and business development sector all working together to deliver the LPWAN programme in NI  Supported by Digital Catapult  Coast-to-coast and border-to-border LoRaWAN (and Sigfox) network  50+ LoRaWAN gateways strategically placed using geographical propagation software LPWAN NI  Infrastructure is currently under construction and will be complete by April 2018 5
