NSG-CB membership: – family carers – people with learning disabilities – Royal College of Psychiatrists – British Psychological Society – Royal College of GP’s – NHS Trusts – Researchers – service providers – a range of practitioners, regulators, commissioners and third sector representatives. The group is action and outcome focused and comes together twice a year.
National Strategy Group : • Gathering evidence about current service provision and development • Establishing and promulgating examples of best practice • Raising awareness at all levels including individual and families, statutory health and social care organisations, regional and national governments, the third sector.
National Strategy Group: • Charter for service users and for carers • Aimed at: – Service providers – Service commissioners – Professional organisations – Inspection and monitoring groups – Voluntary / charitable groups – Etc.
National Strategy Group: • ‘Sign-up’ and support of charter is hoped to encourage: – Greater equality of provision of services and support – Higher standards of care – Development of effective and person centred supports near to home – Support for families / carers – A reduction in inequalities of opportunity and of physical and psychological well-being
Charter Human Rights People with complex needs have the SAME Human Rights as everyone else to be healthy, full and valued members of their community respecting their culture, ethnic origin, religion, age, gender and disability
Early Intervention People will find out everything they can about a child who has behaviour problems, and help and support them and their family as soon as possible.
Families Families will be helped to be healthy and happy together
Person centred planning and support • Individuals will have their own plan and support, including good communication support. • Support will change if it needs to • Support will be local
Good health People will have the best help to be as well and healthy as they can be
Relationships People have the same rights as everyone else to • A family • A social life, • relationships, • housing, • education, • work and leisure
Good support staff • Care and support is given by people who are properly trained • They should support the person with whatever they need, whatever problems they have • Support is provided in ways that have been shown to work best • Extra help from specialists is available when needed
Positive behaviour support Everyone must do everything they can to make sure that people will not be hurt or made to feel bad by the things that are done to cope with difficult behaviour
Best practice Everyone must make sure they find out what are the best ways to help people who have problems. They must find out what is up to date and what works from people who study these things.
